@rusty Everyone likes Telecasters. Even players who don't play one will have favorable things to say. Clapton and Jeff Beck give them high marks but it's not easy finding a video of Clapton or Beck playing one.Â
Jimmy Page was a Tele man until Joe Walsh convinced Jimmy he should be playing a good Les Paul.Â
And the last time I saw the Eagles Joe Walsh was playing a Telecaster and Glen Frey was playing a Les Paul. Don Felder played a Les Paul, a double neck SG and a Strat on a couple songs.Â

Peter Green guitars going to auction

@bill_graham Dickey left single coils in two positions on his Strats " so I can sound like Bo Diddley and play clean rhythm guitar". But it put a hot rail in the neck position and set his tone knobs so he could sound more like a Gibson.Â

Do you have a "utility" amp that you use? Kinda like a jack of all trades. Maybe not the top of the line, but does all aspects of the job very well. Old relieable, always there and serves when you need it..in a pinch.
Mine is a solid state Fender Champion 30. Two channels, normal 3 band eq, reverb, foot switch, head phone jack, and ext speaker jack. I have used it for about 20 yrs and its always been very solid. Never will part with it.Â
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

Any thoughts or inputs on overdrive pedals? I have mentioned this before, really not a pedal/effects guy. I have a wah and a EQ that I more or less use as a boost and volume thing. I just normally use the drive channel on my tube amps, or overdrive it naturally. I have a couple of solid states and the one , they drive channel is kinda murky. Looking to possibly get an overdrive pedal to compensate for that. Just soliciting for some ideas from you good folks! I like to keep things reasonable. Under 70.00.
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

@jszfunk Vox Mini Go3. Solid state - 3 watts which can actually sound pretty loud in a small room! This is a modeling amp along the lines of a Roland Cube - only built in Vietnam (instead of China!). I use this in my home studio for recording - especially with a lap steel. Several amp models and effects including phase (shifter), chorus, reverb ... several "crunch" modes. "Solid State" is such a bad word to guitar snobs, but this is a Swiss Army Knife amp!

Any places/sites you have used for after market guitar parts? I have a couple that I have frequented ,but just looking for some others. Thanks

Sounds nice. I don't have issues with solid states at all, but I I know what you mean by the "guitar snobs".Â

Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

@jszfunk Years ago I saw Jack Pearson (playing with Jimmy Hall) in a small club. He was using a small Yamaha solid state amp. I hung around and chatted with him - said he absolutely loved that little amp because it was so light. Of course, he's Jack Pearson. He could play a tennis racket or a broom through a paper megaphone and sound better than anybody else through any kind of rig!

I've also got a 15 watt Marshall solid state amp. I have found that when using the overdrive channel - turning the tone most of the way down helps with the murkiness. ÂPosted by: @jszfunkAny thoughts or inputs on overdrive pedals? Glendale (parts, bridges, saddles - all the way up to boutique instruments) - https://glendaleguitars.com/
I have a Telecaster with Glendale bridge saddles. I believe they build/service guitars for Billy Gibbons. I'll post more as I think of them.

Thanks for the heads up on these. I think people should check Grestch out. I played about 5 different models a couple of months ago from them in the 400.00-700.00 range and all of them were outstanding for that price range. I have got my eye on a couple!!

Can't help you there as I have never changed out pickups so have no experience beyond the stock ones that came with my guitars. There are a ton of after market pickup Mfg. these days so your best bet is to read the reviews. It also depends on the type of tone you are looking for?
You may be able to pickup some used and save some $$$ if you search reverb and ebay.
Here are a couple of mags I subscribe to where you can read reviews

Harley Benton $95 guitar played on tour
https://www.guitarworld.com/news/scott-poley-harley-benton-arena-tour

@bill_graham With a good amp and a rack of pedals (the player in the article acknowledges use of effects) a guitar can be the weak link in the chain.  Maybe manufacturers of fine instruments (Gibson, Fender, Paul Reed Smith - countless boutique makers) are missing the point? Fact is, most of these imports are cheap and flimsy RIPOFFS of registered designs which are most certainly built with better components and craftsmanship.  Maybe the future of music is in disposable "Bic lighter" guitars? I hate to mix money and dollar concerns in when talking about music - but every American made guitar that I own has increased in value since I acquired them. These copies will never be worth a dime more than you pay for them brand new. Yes, I know that is not the concern here.

Agree 100% rusty but for the struggling touring musician maybe a $95 Harley Benton guitar with a few upgrades is good enough. Plus the advantage of not worrying if a $2-3k or more $$$ Gibson or Fender getting damaged or stolen is not an issue.
If your $95 guitar is trashed or stolen you just buy another one.
I think a real talented musician can make any decent guitar sound great.
Maybe Jack Pearson has the right idea playing cheap Fender Squires instead of expensive vintage or custom shop models. In his hands he makes it sing.
That being said I love my real Les Paul standard and would not trade for anything but realistically I don't think I am not good enough of a player to take advantage of the superior quality. If I was being practical an Epi LP or even a couple hundred $$$ Harley Benton LP copy would be good enough for my skill level.
But having a real LP Standard makes me feel good beyond the tone.
But maybe the wife would be more accepting of me getting more guitars I really don't need if I added a few more $ 95 copies I don't have like a Strat, Tele, a Gibby ES335 etc.instead of $$$ real Fenders or Gibson's.
