$1,500.00??? I can't find anything similar anywhere under $3K! If this thing is still listed after Christmas (next Monday), I might have to make an inquiry. I figure that as long as I don't give a credit card number or agree to meet in a dark alley after midnight I might be safe. Anybody want to ride shotgun with me on this?
Beautiful guitar! If it has no neck repairs and the neck is straight that is a steal of a deal.
Â
Yes, as I suspected the 1995 wine red LP Custom for $1,500.00 was evidently indeed too good to be true. Click on the link this morning to find that the listing has been "flagged for removal". Found another listing (not gonna post link) for a LP Standard for only $900.00. What possible joy or outcome can a$$holes get by posting fake and sham offers like this? Â
Related news (perhaps): My wife is a collector of ... all sorts of stuff. She watches You-Tube videos of people who pick junk from thrift stores, dumpsters and other gold mines. Yesterday I saw a show where a guy found what certainly looked like a Gibson LP Custom with P-90s in a pile of junk by the side of the road. As best that I could tell by watching, it passed most of the smell tests (2 screws in the truss rod cover, "thin" Gibson logo - all of the easily visible stuff). When he removed the pot' covers on the back - wiring looked most certainly like Chines poo-poo (and I ain't talkin' about an appetizer).  So beware of counterfeits and deals that are obviously just too good to be true!
I am still in the Les Paul hunt, but I'll likely stop searching Craigs List.
Â
Yeah unfortunately there are some folks who are dishonest on CL. You just have to be real careful. I also use Reverb, Ebay, Music Go Round, Guitar center has a used section.

Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

@jszfunk Not saying that there are no real deals to be had on Craigs List. I've made a deal or two via this site. Whoever came up with the truism/adage "if it sounds too good to be true - it probably is" - knew what they were talking about! Buyer ALWAYS beware!
My LP search is going to be through my local brick and mortar music store, Reverb, or from the used gear department on Sweetwater or Guitar Center. I probably won't get any mind-blowing bargains, but I'll be more likely to get a decent deal on an actual instrument. Â

True that!

Posted by: @jszfunkJust curious if any of you good people have ever done a "project " guitar. Something you totally wanted to mod out to your own specs, maybe something that just need some tlc to get it back into playing shape, etc....
I have been thinking about doing that. Git my eye on a few things where I have some ideas , with, pups, pots, knobs, tuners, bridge, nobs, possibly paint, pickguard and along those lines. Really not into a total rebuild. I think I would need some guidance with fret dressing/ re fretting and routing of the body for different pickups. Just wanted to see what you all thought. Thanks!!!
Â
I have a Made in Korea ESP LTD MH301 I got cheap around 12 years ago I was planning on redoing. It is a well made guitar body with a neck-thru design body but the electronics and hardware could use upgrading.
I bought it planning on using the body as upgrade tool changing out the hardware, tuners, wiring and pickups gradually. But never found the time to do it.
Still may do something with as my oldest daughter is showing interest in learning guitar so I could upgrade it if she follows through and give it to her.
It is a decent guitar in stock form but I think with some upgrading it could be a killer guitar.
You may already know this but the StewMac website is guitar maker/ modifiers dream as far as tools and instruction books/ videos. Not cheap but their tools are top quality and they have tools for every possible project and need.
I purchased some setup tools from them and they work great if you want to try to do your own guitar setups.
Speaking of projects how cool is the mini Telecaster kit?
Would make a great travel guitar.
They also have a Stratocaster version. Doesn't look bad for $100.

It's been viewed over 55 MILLION times on YouTube so we might as well take a look. Note the crowd is bigger than Donald Trump's inauguration. And the second lead guitar is more of a wizard than David.Â

Did not know of that website. Thanks for the heads up, will come in handy.
I have always wondered about those kits. They seem to be pretty inexpensive and I thought it might reflect on the quality of the parts you are given to build. Makes me kinda wary , but I would be interested if they are legit.
I have browsed this website , but never have bought anything.

I have an Epiphone Mini Concert Jumbo, cant remember the exact model, but you get the drift. It was a B stock, for some sort of blemish, which I could never find.Â
I have had it for about 12-13 yrs. It has been a pretty solid instrument for me. Is there better, sure. But for the time being it is very serviceable, and never had any issues with it. Before that I had an Alvarez SC 60 Jumbo. Very nice sounding guitar, but man I had alot of fret and neck problems with it. Ended up selling it. It was nice while it lasted though.
I am interested in possibly getting a parlor size guitar in the near future. Awhile back in Guitar Center I played an Alvarez, which was very nice, and randomly picked up and tried a PRS one a few weekends ago. You dont really assocaite them with acoustics, but I was pretty impressed. Also tried out a Recording King some time ago and it was very nice as well. I wish I remember the model numbers, but a link below to the PRS.

@bill_graham "Best guitar solos" - some great stuff on the list, but just as subjective as choosing the "best guitarist". I could rattle off a couple of hundred that didn't make the list.
The ES-175! My favorite Gibson! Along with the 335 - one of my Holy Grail guitars! I probably will not own one of either in this lifetime. Just as well, as my meager skills are not worthy of either! 😉Â

Â
This is just my opinion , but I cant think if there is a more important 1:42 in guitar playing history than Eruption or one of the most important pieces in music history.
Yeah, I usually don't put to much stock into these lists and rankings. We all know how that stuff rolls. Just used to generate chatter. BUT, given that statement , I was pretty shocked to see Rock Bottom in there....in a good way!!! I have always been a HUGE,MASSIVE Schenker,UFO,MSG fan, and that solo is SMOKING!!! Even better in a live setting.

@bill_graham Dickey as we know, refurbished his main guitar for most of his career about 1999. Dickey's 1957 Gold Top Dickey found at a Manhattan pawn shop in 1974. I one interview he said 1973 but he continued to use a Sunburst Les Paul with zebra pickups in 1974.Â
The 57 Goldtop sat on display in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio for several years. Dickey had become irritated at Gibson and played Fender hardtail Stratocasters during the latter part of the 1990's so Goldie as it was known was put in the Hall of Fame.Â
While it sat there on display, the Goldtop finished experienced oxidation for some reason I don't recall and turned what Dickey called " a putrid green color".Â
When the Allman Brothers Band display was taken down of course Dickey got the guitar back and he decided to strip off all the paint, sand it and repaint it red. He added additional things such as a unique pickup control switch and added a pick guard which apparently wasn't on the guitar when Dickey bought it.Â
Before the 1957 LP was put in the Hall of Fame.Â

Gibson Custom shop copy of the way the 1957 looked after Dickey finished with it. This particular guitar is for sale for $15,000.00Â

@jszfunk Nobody will believe this, but I'm really not familiar with Eruption. I will give it a listen in a second or two.
I admire the shredders and the speed-metalists for their dexterity, musicality and the ability to play those notes so fast! For me though, a solo should be more about serving the song. It could be a long and drawn out thing or it could be just over a very small portion of the song. It could be a hundred notes or just a few. Sometimes brevity and simplicity suffice.
EDIT:
Okay, I found and listened to the Eruption solo. Speed, dexterity, musicality ... 100 notes per second - checks all the boxes! Certainly impressive! But it's also (opinion) a little self-indulgent. Not really part of a song or tune. Can't dance to it. 😉 Â
EVH was a monster! Long live his memory and spirit!

I guess his idea behind that was meant to be a solo piece, not a song, tune or dance track. Not all , but I think most solos(guitar) would be a little self indulgent😉. I would not consider him a shredder by any means. Yes he can shred, but his playing his not defined by that. Listen to the first 6 VH releases, that will tell you all you need to know.
