A DJ in Alabama introduced them mistakenly as RME Speedwagon. It's of course R.E.M. and no Speedwagon.
One of my uncles own a REO Speedwagon flat bed truck back in my youth. REO are the initials of R. E. Olds who founded the now out of business REO trucks after he sold Oldsmobile to General Motors.
Oh yes REO and Diamond T trucks were bought by White Trucks and merged the two as Diamond Reo. When White went bankrupt it was taken over by Volvo and the Diamond Reo was discontinued.
General Motors discontinued Oldsmobile and Pontiac several years ago.
