After seeing the pics of Gregg with reading glasses on during the rehearsals, I was really hoping he would know the lyrics well. He ditched the glasses and knew the lyrics, but it wasn't quite like when Gregg is 100% comfortable and belts it out! Then again, it's a youtube video so who knows how loud he was in the theatre. He definitely got more comfortable in the 2nd and 3rd verses and stretttcchhhhhed for some high notes in classic Gregg fashion.

Piano player seemed to have lost steam in the 2nd half of his solo. Overall, though, nice version.

And my man Jason Isbell afforded himself very well. Didn't know if he had the pickin' chops in him to handle the Steve Gaines parts in I Know A Little, but he did in spades. Nice vocal too.

When I first heard this song I thought it was Gregg. Laid Back and Pronounced had just come out, and I would have sworn it was Gregory

I agree Tim. Interested to hear the professional release as I couldn't hear him at all during the chorus. Overall, glad to hear it but a little disappointed that, as you said, he didn't seem to know it well enough to really dig in. Pleasant enough though.

I watched some of the other videos up from this show and found it funny that John Hyatt was perfect on Cirtis Lowe after being one of the mismatches (one way out) at Gregg's show. I thought Trace Atkins was absolutely perfect. Liked Mule's take as always. Still, can't help thinking what could have been on some of these, as with Gregg's show, with a little more rehearsal time. If they do another one of these, I hope they figure out how to spend more time tightening up and getting familiar with the material. Seems like Audley Freed did!

By far, my favorite song from the LS catalog. Nice effort by Gregg, here. Good orchestration - the backing vocals maybe a little "on" for my tastes - but very nice all around.

Who is the tele-guitarist next to Jimmy Hall? I should know - seen him everywhere!

Tim, I think the guitar licks on the ORIGINAL "I Know a Little" were by Wayne Perkins ... who considering his input on their Muscle Shoals demos and friendship with the originals (almost a full member - right before the crash) ... probably should have oughtta been there. Great bunch of players assembled here, though!

By the way - what did Cheap Trick do?

No Wayne Perkins did not do the original guitar licks on I Know A Little. It was a Steve song for pete's sake.

Cheap Trick did Gimme Back My Bullets.

I said, "I think". A thousand pardons, three forgive me's and two I'm sorry's. 😉

I had imagined Cheap Trick doing "What's Your Name?".

Yeah, he was playing it in Crawdaddy before Skynyrd.

That's pretty decent. Gregg sure didn't take much of a bow; it was like he could not wait to get off the stage.

I could not pull the Stubhub trigger last night; my standards are unreasonably high after 10/28.

Between the crowd and the 58 person band 😉 , Gregg really didn't make much of an impression to me, one way or another. But as was mentioned, it was just a YouTube thing.

I found another YouTube clip of Gregg at the tribute. I agree with the remark about the background vocals. The sound quality is a little better on this clip. It's still just YouTube. You can see him acknowledge the audience at the end of the clip.

i think you're referring to george marinelli - he's played with bonnie raitt and bruce hornsby among others.

becksbolero I will never be Deano. Thanks for catching my mistake! I was just a little stressed out from work. Unlike some I literally deal with life and death daily with my patients. Unless you are a doctor, nurse, EMT, fire fighter, or police officer you'll never understand............I can certainly tell you are a gentleman. 😛 😛 😛

Thanks for the additional phone/youtube recording there. You can definitely hear Gregg better on that one. He sings it well. I'm sure he'll sound even better and more prominent when they mix the show for the official release.

my standards are also very high after 10/28, I thought the sound was pretty muddy and there were very long pauses between tunes theoretically for set changes but more likely to give the crowd more time to buy beer and spill it on the fox seats. I thought the crowd did a pretty good job trashing the fox, that was too bad. high point and memorable moment was when artimus said HE was glad to see ME! imagine that. somebody in the crowd thought he was an imposter and googled him to see if he was dead yet. great.
