When I originally heard $79.95, I thought that was a bit steep. But that's only if you buy all five shows! Do the math, if you do buy all five, that's only $15.99 a show. And you can only buy one, or however many you want, and individual shows are ridiculously cheap.

So all those who were saying the band was ripping people off can just shut up now.

Next question would be: Why are the Chicago shows ($29.95) ten dollars more than the Santa Clara shows ($19.95)? Must be venue fees I would guess, but still, $29.95 is a bargain.

EDIT: I just read the small print: This is a $50 off deal which expires on May 15th, which is this Friday. I assume that $50 applies only to the 5 show package.

Count me out (for whoever is keeping track of these things, ha, ha)

Has nothing to do with the price, I just am not interested in these concerts.

A " once in a lifetime reunion". Alright then. How does a group of musicians who have never played a live show together as a band get to call it a once in a lifetime reunion?

A sucker is born every minute.

I might buy one of them, not sure which. I couldn't sit through five nights of the Dead, no way, no how. Not a big Dead fan, but I've really come around to them in the last 7 or 8 years. And it would be interesting to hear how they sound with Anastasio, etc. on board. Don't forget, there will be four original members up there. ABB toured the last 15 years with only three.

There were four of them in 2003, 2004 and 2009 as well. This is just revisionist marketing using the brand name this time.

Same here.

I figured out pretty quickly that I was too late at my first show on july 4th 1986 in Buffalo.

The blind allegiance to this band is nuts.

Sorry.
I'll be in my backyard with my cd collection.
Duane and Berry are on the top of my play list.
Then Pigpen...
Don't forget Jimi...

"Ugh, stop calling them the Grateful Dead."

Come on now...The Allman Brothers Band, The Who, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, Genesis, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Yes, AC/DC, Black Sabbath ... on and on.

I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger. More than $79 and I'm out, but, the stream in my house is good entertainment. I've also heard that the stream will be available on demand for awhile after the shows.

I don't know what to expect out of this configuration. I know that the Dead and Furthur are not my favorite concert experiences. I think a lot of that had to do with me not being able to separate the experience from a Grateful Dead concert.

I know a lot of you didn't get the Grateful Dead. I did. My first show was in 1978 and I saw well over 80 shows, and a bunch of JGB shows, Mickey Hart shows, Weir shows, and a whole heck of a lot Phil shows. The music moves me on a different level than other bands. For me it was a far better experience than the Allman Brothers in the late 70's and throughout the 80's. Once Warren and Derek joined ABB I felt the Allman Brothers eclipsed the Grateful Dead musically. There was musical proficiency I experience with the ABB that I never experienced with the Grateful Dead.

But the Grateful Dead had a mystical level that I never saw the Allman Brothers attain.

Regardless, I don't expect any of these Fare Thee Well concerts to rise to the level of the Grateful Dead or the Allman Brothers when either band was finding the X factor or hitting the note.

But, as an intellectual exercise, I can see myself getting my money's worth from these streams.

Any idea why this is on the MLB.com site?
Seems like an odd pairing

I'd say $80 for 5 shows is a bargain.

as far as whether it will be the same as the old days......no it won't. my 1st dead show was in 82 then I did a lot of shows from 86 to 95. by 1991 though I was getting a little burnt out, mostly because of the crowds. the scene was really out of control by the end. (which is what I expect in Chicago) I did go to the reunion thing in 2002 at alpine valley and that captured some of the flavor but not all. I saw the Dead a couple times after that and Further, still not the same. I went to Further's final shows in Mexico and although it was fun, it was more like a private event. the music wasn't near as "tight". I guess I just miss Jerry.

i'll buy the package but I don't expect to be transported back in time to a younger, less cynical time. LOL the amount I drink during all 5 shows will probably equal what I would drink before even getting in the gate back in the day. not to mention other things.

One thing I've learned from the recent PPV fight is that sites like periscope have technology allowing streaming them for free, which is all i want to invest in this cash -grab.

Or you could do like we are doing. Going to the local movie theater and watching it on the big screen for $15. I'm not much of a people person, but this seems like it should be more of a communal experience anyway:

I don't consider $29.95 to see what is left of this band a bargain at all and I won't pay a dime for this stream. They should throw their loyal fans many of whom can't make it to or get tickets to these shows a bone and stream it for free. Anything more than $10 per show is ripping off their loyal fanbase IMO.

When the inevitable recordings ripped from the PPV start circulating, you could do B&P and have your own copy Grin

Wow, a lot of haters on here for the boys. I agree that the cost is a bargain. I am going to both sets of shows because I toured extensively in the '80's and caught over 300 shows. I could care less about the configuration of the band, I'm going because it's closure. Full circle. If you've never been on tour, you wouldn't understand. When Jerry died I was falling in love with my wife (and he died on my birthday!) and I was kind of jaded on the scene at that time, so I put it all on hold. Fast forward to now and I'm doing one last road trip to end all road trips. It's about saying goodbye to old friends, making new ones and thanking the band for a real good time. I have tickets for Santa Clara, but not for Chicago. If I don't get in, I can watch the PPV. I'm stoked!!
