Hey thanks for posting this !

Stone Cold Rage sounds very much like, well - a damn Gov't Mule song !!

Can't wait for this new CD !

This is great news from the interview:

We do a lot of covers, because we do a different show every night, a different set list. So if you do a three-hour show, doing two or three cover songs is a nice change of pace. And I see more and more people doing it; I see Tom Petty doing it, Springsteen doing it, and of course Pearl Jam's been doing it for years.

Having said that … it's going to be full-tilt Mule for a long time now, and I'm not going to try to make room for anything else.

Just listened. Sounds pretty good to me. Hey Gov't Mule, make sure you come to Boston soon. I always try to take someone that only knows Soulshine to a show to show them what good music they play. They usually get mad at me because on the way to the concert, I will say, " I hope they don't play Soulshine tonight".

Awesome tunes, can't wait for the new album. Good interview, too. "Stone Cold Rage" sounds a bit like old school Mule (albeit with an organ). I hope they play that tune when I see them next...

Love the new song! Sounds like a combo of Killing In The Name Of and a Sly Stone song. I hope they have a guest vocalist with huge pipes and a big range sing this on tour because even though there is a lot of energy here, it feels like it could go full on Tsar Bomba with opera pipes on it. Awesome song. For my taste buds, Warren's writing for Mule has gotten better and better with age. Keep em coming!

Can't wait for the album!

Me too.....Some sweet picking from Warren and Danny's organ sounds great. Anyone know who the female background singers are on this track?

I see it as the opposite. Much preferred the songs on the first three albums than anything since. Not saying that anything is bad, I just think the early material is much stronger.

To me, Sarah Surrender sound like a Hall & Oates tune. I did like that Warren came up with some different guitar but the tune itself didn't sound like a Govt Mule tune.

I heard the same thing. Different for sure, not sure how it would work in a Mule show. However I do like Stone Cold Rage.
I may pre-order the deluxe version with the extra tunes, if it won't be available for regular record stores

Crude analogy but you could say Sarah Surrender is to Mule what Shakedown St or Fire on the Mt was to the GD. Fire & Shakedown are unlike anything the GD did before and sounded disco to boot. I'm sure there was resistance at first. Now they are classics. Like the GD, for me Mule is a really good band and I find that I really like their take on most styles and songs they play. Expanding and evolving their songbook rather than always sticking to the original sound builds a stronger songbook imho. Not all bands can pull that off but for me Mule sure does!

Sara sounds like a 70s tune to me and I was expecting a nice extended wah wah 70s jam after the song. Could see/hoping this happening in concert

Too funny, all the swag available and signed stuff - kudos for creativity, I assume they are not the only band to do this sort of thing these days.

I agree with both of you. Not that its bad, just different, that’s my opinion. It’s all what your ears like.

I understand expanding and evolving the catalog, but that necessarily does not always equate stronger material.

I feel the Mule are at their best when the dig in and give the music more of a kick, spank and punch….. maybe kinda dark a little bit. I think they still do at times , but those first three, whoa! That’s where its at for me. Nothing like that three piece bringing that sound. Danny’s keyboards kinds makes me cringe at times also. I do like High and Mighty quite a bit.

After reading that article , I wonder what this record would have sounded like if Hillary won or Bernie was running at that point?!?:P 😉 😉

Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

I can't wait to hear Click-Track. How funny would it be if it was just the click track with no music. LOL

Whole album is pretty diverse. I've had it for a while because I interviewed WH for upcoming Guitar World cover and have really enjoyed. Hacking away at the story now and will let you all know when it's out in about 6 weeks. Good stuff.

Cool, AlPaul....Hope you post the interview here after it hits stands. If, that is, Guitar World allows for such things.

That's awesome! I can't help but to ask: do you know what Mule song will be featured in the guitar tab section?
