Wow. That looks great! Too bad about the drops. I like both those tunes.

I was there. It was a good show........I couldn't say outstanding, but that is entirely by Mule standards only. For any other band, it would rate higher than "outstanding". I couldn't say the band was as energetic as I've heard them at times, but after three States in three nights to kick off this tour that is certainly understandable (Seattle/WA, Eugene/OR, Oakland/CA). Plenty of often heard tunes such as Gameface, Banks of The Deep End and Time To Confess (before Scofield came out). Not really a complaint, as I like all those tunes. I would have maybe expected some different covers though, instead of the often used Breakdown, The Shape I'm In and Low Spark of High Heeled Boys. All of them sounded great, it's just that you usually expect the Mule to mix it up a little more than that. Also, I didn't really need to hear Dreams for the 100th or so time, although never before by the Mule. I'm just really tired of the tune. Instrumental Illness was interesting.

The Scofield tunes were all very good...........the cat certainly can play. I'm familiar with him, I've owned Still Warm for 25 years and have a couple other of his records as well although I admit I don't play them much. Probably the high point for me was a 15 minute Birth of The Mule including Scofield, a jazz instrumental from Dose. Scorching version and fortunately for y'all that was the one tune I shot video of. Give me a little time, my computer is tied up with schoolwork right now but I eventually will get it up. A 15 minute tune takes an eternity to upload.

Overall, a good show, a tremendous guitar night, and three full hours of music.

The bummer was getting to The Fox Theatre in Oakland. My buddy Dave and I planned on dinner in Oakland before the show so left San Jose at 5:30 for an 8:00 start. Traffic on 880 north was SO horrendous in rush hour on Friday night that we parked our car at 7:45, 2 hours and 15 minutes after we had left on a 42 MILE COMMUTE!!! Damn. We must have averaged 7 or 8 MPH on the freeway. I don't think I'd do the Fox again on a Friday night unless I can get out of San Jose by 3:00 and beat the traffic. Silicon Valley is booming again, which is a good thing. But it sure has it's liabilities. Not fun at all. We grabbed a very quick burger (fortunately right where we parked) and only missed the opener, Hammer and Nails.
