Ginger Baker Recovering from Open-Heart Surgery

Cream Drummer Ginger Baker Recovering from Open-Heart Surgery
Legendary drummer Ginger Baker, who was one-third of Cream along with Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce, is currently recovering from an open-heart surgery that he underwent last month, Rolling Stone reports.
Baker was forced to cancel tour dates with his band Air Force earlier this year due to heart problems and also suffered a bad fall around the time of his surgery last month. Baker’s daughter Leda posted an update on her father’s condition on his website recently, saying. “After open heart surgery and a bad fall Ginger is miraculously recovering very well.”
“He called the day after his surgery to say he was OK,” she continues. “Albeit a rather disoriented and unintelligible conversation he was at least awake and aware. The fall has resulted in swollen legs and feet which he is seeing his doctor about in the next day or so.”
The statement also addresses the possibility of Baker getting back behind the kit, noting that “although he is recovering, any performances in the near future seem over ambitious.”

hope he recovers. imo the best rock drummer ever

I hope so too, Matt. He's my favorite drummer of all time too

hope he recovers. imo the best rock drummer ever
He's a lot more than a "rock" drummer.

That is about 7 more than me. LOL - BBM and the first Air Force album. Nothing else I heard ever made me want to own it.

he'd prob punch you in the nose for calling him a Rock drummer, knowing Ginger

Here's to a good recovery for Ginger. An amazing musician. Saw him at the Academy of Music with Baker Gurvitz Army. Great show. Also followed his work into African rock, jazz, and funk sounds via his journey to Nigeria and his band Salt. After he left the members of Salt formed Blo, a great African psychedelic funkrock group, which I suppose never would have happened without Ginger's influence. A true musical explorer.

he would and I'd laugh it off

He is nasty, rude, and anti-social enough to recover well.

Exactly!
Felt lucky to see Ginger sit in w/Jack Bruce's band Dec. 1989 at the Paradise in Boston -- he sat in on their second set
The early 1990s CD Sunrise on the Sufferbus, by White Rabbit, is excellent IIRC -- loaned it years ago & it never came back -- as BrerRabbit said, a true musical explorer -- get well soon Mr. Baker

By referring to the punch in the nose, I suppose y'all have seen the "Beware of Mr. Baker" documentary that guy did. That was just some funny stuff.

That doc is really great.
I guess this surgery confirms Ginger Baker actually does have a heart.

I agree.

Me too.

Put up a prayer for the nurses tryin' to deal with his bad attitude and nasty remarks, wiping his butt and telling him to quit waving his arms around so he doesn't open up that incision through his sternum.
I just wonder how the figured out that the tiny black blob WAS his heart.
fantastic drummer. just don't piss him off....!
