Definitely the person most deserving of the title "fifth Beatle". Made incredible contributions to the Beatles productions while also offering some needed sanity. RIP and thanks!

Amen to that 🙁

Ironically, he was a part of Brian Epstein's last-ditch attempt at finding a record company (Parlophone) to record The Beatles after Decca ("guitar groups are on the way out.") and others turned them down. Without him, their records would have never reached the heights that they did.

At their first meeting, he even solicited their opinions:

Martin: Let me know if there's anything you don't like (paraphrased)
Harrison: Well, for a start, I don't like your tie (Liverpudlian wit, paraphrased).

There'll never be another George Martin.

all of the above is true.

also, to his credit, he didn't push back when John told him that the Beatles would pick their own songs after being told to record How Do You Do It

Just think what would songs like Strawberry Fields and I am the Walrus (among others) would sound like w/o George Martin
