George Jones

Thought I’d start an appreciation thread.
He has some clunkers but his good ones are SO GOOD
The voice is basically the definition of country.
The good songs? Yeah, I’d say close to perfect lyrics.
A true gem for music.

George Jones and Ronnie Dunn can sing the phone book and make it hit you right in the heart. maybe the greatest 2 country singers from their generations.

The white Ray Charles....greatest country singer ever. More emotion and heartbreak than anyone (and isn't that what it's all about?!)

I miss the ole possum
I love this tune, too bad there ain't a verse for Duane in it.

What a career. Many dance floors have filled over the decades when “He Stopped Loving Her Today” was kicked off.

So if we take He Stopped Loving Her out of the equation. What’s your favorite?
I think mine is probably Lonely Bartender. Followed by Still Doing Time.

Love me some Possum too. If you really want to know who inspired George's vocal style, find some old Donnie Young records or some early 60s country that has George and Donnie singing back up. Donnie taught George how to bend those tones.
If you have trouble finding Donnie Young recordings, try searching by his stage name, Johnny Paycheck.
My favorite George tune? Which ever one is playing at the time.

If Drinking Dont Kill Me Her Memory Will
"with the blood from my body I could start my own still"

my favorite george jones tunes
bed of roses
hell stays open all night long
who'se gonna fill their shoes
