Hilarious and spot on... Van Halen should hire him to replace DLR and Sammy on vocals!

I know it is sacrilege, but I never 'got" DLR's vocals. Have you ever listened to "running with the devil" tuning out the instruments and listening just to the vocals? Painful!

I got a kick out of the Gene Simmons impersonation as well. "Kiss was the first rock and roll band to put strings on their guitars." Lol....

Man, this guy sure nails it. He's great!!

As far as getting Dave, like a lot of great rock singers, he is not a technically great singer but is a stylist whose phrasings have a lot of character, and people who love that character are fans. Other people I would think of as fitting that kind of bill might be Dylan, Knopfler, Billy Corgan, Steve Miller, Gordon Gano from the Violent Femmes, even Mick Jagger. All of these guys have odd voices and limited range, hitting flat notes live, but....they have an X factor that makes them interesting.

Not to bad of an impersonation.

Good post Jim about Dave...spot on. Dave was just as much a part of that band and made it what it was as anybody else. Those first 6 albums would not be the same without him. Like mentioned above his phrasing, timing ,and etc made him one of the great front men. I know he will never be confused with Dylan as a lyricist but his lyrics I thought could be clever, catchy and even kinda of sinister at times.
I know some are not fans , I get it, but I personally enjoy what he brings to the table.

I agree with the comments about DLR the singer....Not by any means technically great in terms of range and technique....But the swagger, phrasing, even many of the lyrics are top notch and are absolutely essential to the sound and success of early Van Halen.

For instance songs like Mean Street, Sinners Swing, Unchained, Top Jimmy, Girl Gone Bad, and many more have rather dark and quirky (in a good way) lyrics that are slightly more in-depth and share a form of sophistication, for lack of a better word, than much of the material their peers were recording. Many of Roth's lyrics are a product of his superior intellect.

His personality can be a bit nutty and over the top, but there's no denying he's a very intelligent individual and it shows in many of the lyrics he wrote back in the day.

A good example of this is pretty much the entire "Fair Warning" album....
