Not everyone that put in for mail order is going to get tix.

Scalpers also put in for mail order tix.

I found this picture on facebook:

For most deadheads including myself we don't like how the whole thing is a total cash grab, and there's a whole "been there done that" mentality with how we've already seen or heard GD shows before Garcia's death, and other ones/furthur/dead/Bobby/Phil shows post-Garcia's death, and that the other ones/dead/Furthur shows were OK but it's not the same since Garcia isn't there on guitar or singing, and many people don't think that Trey is the best musician to fill Garcia's spot.

That is an interesting take , TheNewt. I guess I look at these shows very differently. I don't see this as "been there, done that" at all.

I never saw Furthur, not even when they played Atlanta and I had easy access to tickets. Just no interest on my part.

I liked Phil and Friends the most of the post-Jerry Dead projects, but even so, I never traveled to see them. I can't imagine driving to Chicago for that.

But the very last "Dead shows" of any kind, with Trey on guitar? Sign me up. If I can get tickets, I'm going. Part of that is that I am a big Trey fan and think he is a good choice for the guitar slot, but I think there is something more at work here.

I think the whole key to the thing is this: If you buy that this is a Special Once In A Lifetime Event, like I do, then it's worth the travel and hassle and so forth. The last Dead shows ever! With the heir to the Dead's throne on guitar! The uniting of the jamband tribes! Fireworks on the 4th of July!

If you think it's "just another cash grab post-Jerry Dead project rehashing the same songs I've seen a thousand times" then I can see why it doesn't rock your world.

With the heir to the Dead's throne on guitar!

This is bound to raise some eyebrows!!! 😮

But I'm totally with you Rob. Everything you said. Cool

Heheheheheh...

I'm not going to weigh in on any "heir to the throne" stuff. I think we are talking different Kingdoms.

Instead of the Chicago blow out I'm shooting for a couple shows at Terrapin Crossroads. I haven't been West of Wyoming in a couple decades and need to see some old friends. Maybe I can work in a Knopfler show while I'm out there.

Regarding the Chicago shows I hope everyone has a grate time.

this is starting to get a feel like the final 1995 tour. seems like a lot of kids looking for a party and trouble. I'm having a hard time deciding if I should go.

http://www.jambands.com/news/2015/01/26/new-on-sale-date-after-fare-thee-well-mail-order-receives-60-000-envelopes/

On July 3-5 the four core surviving members of the Grateful Dead—Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh and Bob Weir—will reunite for their final shows together, performing two sets a night at Chicago’s Soldier Field. The four musicians will be joined at by Trey Anastasio (guitar), Jeff Chimenti (keyboards) and Bruce Hornsby (piano) at “Fare Thee Well: Celebrating 50 Years of Grateful Dead.” Traditional Grateful Dead Ticketing mail order began on January 20 and due to the massive public response, ticketing plans have changed slightly to allow the folks at GDTS TOO to process over 60,000 envelopes which have arrived (requesting an estimated 350,000+ tickets for the three nights). As a result there will be no additional pre-sales and the new public on-sale has been moved from February 14 to February 28th at 10 a.m. CST via Ticketmaster. Additional details about the event can be found at Dead50.net.

Been to many stadium shows in the past. Don't buy seats anywhere close to the stage on the sides or the sound will be horrible.

I wouldn't let that be a concern if I were you. We have Lollapalooza here every summer. That is worse for the city. They destroy Grant Park, takes more than a month to clean up, but I don't recall any incidents. Trust me, there will be a HUGE police presence for this.

You will be fine. If nothing else, come to Chicago for the holiday weekend. I hear it can be nice that time of year.

😉 😉 😉

Grateful Dead at a football stadium? Is that a deflated guitar or is it just the Owsley kickin' in?
