Filmore East Closing

Hello fellow Brothers and Sisters
I'm the new guy here, and I have a really off the wall question.
Now the only people that might be able to answer this one would be Duane, Jaimoe, or Butch.
I don't know if they monitor this or not but here goes.
I was told by an old family friend that in '71, while a certain band was headed to the closing days of the Fillmore East, their van broke down in the outskirts of Washington D.C..
The story goes that my long ago deceased Dad worked on their van and got them back on the road to NYC pronto.
Just trying to find out if there is ant truth to this fable. I know its almost 45 years ago and a lot of brain cells have passed away, but I figure if anyone can help clear it up, it might be here! Thanx a lot and look forward to some answers.

I don't think Duane will be able to give you an answer to your inquiry...

GEEEEEEZ!
Shoot me now, honestly I meant Greg

Good Luck with finding the real story. in the 80's i went by a truck stop on the way to Quincy Il and saw an tour bus.under the bus was Albert Collins working on the engine. A few years back Larry McCray was playing at the Roundbarn Blues in Kirksville Mo,and i asked Johnny Gayden if he remembered it, he said they broke down so many times he had no clue.

The first time I saw Albert the show started late because the bus has broke down.

Good luck in determining the veracity of the story. How cool were it to be true. I assume you heard this directly from your dad, and I'm also assuming he had no agenda in telling you this. The details may be sketchy, but I'd just go with it and treasure a cool nugget from the family tree.
Welcome.

Actually Blooby I heard it from a fellow I recently friended on Facebook, that use to work with him. My Dad was kinda of known locally for helping folks out in a pinch. Story goes that after he got the van rolling again, they tried to bum 50 bucks for gas and no one in the shop would get off the cash to a bunch of scruffy looking hippies.
A gal who worked in the office knew who they were and gave them money and a month later she got an autographed album and her cash back in the mail.
😉

Wasn't the band using an RV/Winnebago by 71?

They were making payments on it as early as July '70.

Jeez..280$ a month was pretty good sized monthly payment for that time wasn't it?
(I was 7 years old)

Maybe Chasenbluesman, but of course they didn't have 5 and 6 year payoffs back then either. 36 months may have been the longest if I'm not mistaken.

Can anyone name the guy in between Butch and the attendant?
(Sorry if it's common knowledge)
