Favorite soundtracks

Listening to The Graduate soundtrack this morning got me thinking of my favorite ones.
1. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly ~ Ennio Morricone
2. The Graduate ~ Simon & Garfunkel, Dave Grusin
3. Goldfinger ~ Dave Barry
4. Breaking Bad ~ Dave Porter
5. Napoleon Dynamite ~ Various
6. Waterboy ~ Various
7. The Breakfast Club ~ Various
8. The Straight Story ~ Angelo Badalamenti
9. The Natural ~ Randy Newman
10. Micheal ~ Various

Mark Knopfler has done some great ones. The music from "Princess Bride", "Local Hero", "Cal" and "The Last Exit to Brooklyn" are all on his album, "Screen Playing". Worth seeking out!

Saturday Night Fever???

"Is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?"

^ x2 on Good Bad and Ugly, Ennio Morricone is fantastic, many great film scores.
For good compilation of songs for soundtrack, Easy Rider is my #1.
Apocalypse Now, great song choices, also the sinister River Music by Mickey Hart and the Rythym Devils.
By far my favorite film composer - as well as favorite composer all round - altho I can't point out a particular score, is Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu - you have heard his work in Akira Kurosawa's films, if you have seen "Ran", ghostly music, strange sounds -

Return with us to Sad Hill Cemetery north of Madrid, Spain and see it in 1966 and 48 years later, 2014.
And don't forget there are two kinds of people in this world. Those with loaded guns and those who dig!
I really like the soundtrack to “Lawless “ featuring Nick Cave and Warren Ellis , Emmylou Harris sings two songs , I’m a big Emmylou fan and the song Cosmonaut has become one of my favourites , also Ralph Stanley covers the Velvet Underground’s “ White Light / White Heat “ .

Had forgotten about the Chambers Brothers’ Time Has Come Today until all those years later on the Coming Home soundtrack - good film about Vietnam from the late 1970s w/Jon Voight, Bruce Dern, Jane Fonda - Xclnt soundtrack
Also Light of Day, w/Michael J Fox, I think Joan Jett - good tunes alright, filmed in & around Cleveland

Forrest Gump has some great music!!

One real weird soundtrack that I can think of, I don't have a copy to look at.
The less than stellar "Porky's" movie had more than stellar musicians including Nick Lowe and Chuck Leavell.
"Is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?"

“O Brother Where Art Thou.”
Peter Gabriel - “Passion” - music from “The Last Temptation of Christ.” Moody, haunting

Bull Durham
Last Of The Mohicans (1992 version)

Singles - helped put Seattle music scene on the map
Saturday Night Fever - no shame listing that. It has aged well. Great rhythm section grooves throughout.
The Lost Boys - not consistent ...but brings up great memories from that era for me.
Pulp Fiction
Big Chill - The original was great and the Deluxe that much better.

Easy Rider
The Big Chill

8 Mile
The Commitments

hotlantatim, if you dig the "Singles" soundtrack, they releases a Deee-Luxe version with added tracks. I have not grabbed it yet myself.

Heavy Metal?

Valley Girl. Hysterical movie which I thought had a killer soundtrack. Starring a young Nicolas Cage.

“Rush”, starring Jason Patrick, Jennifer Jason Leigh & Gregg!
Film was scored by Clapton, and tunes by Hendrix, Johnny Winter and Robin Trower (foreshadowing purpose) are inserted throughout the movie.

Almost Famous
Dazed and Confused
Jesus Christ Superstar

"Crossroads" with Ralph Machio (because it features Ry Cooder and Steve Vai)
"The Legend of 1900" (because of the great piano work throughout and the original song at the end from Roger Waters featuring Eddie Van Halen called "Lost Boys Calling")

Pulp Fiction
Goodfellas
Kill Bill 1 and 11

Ascenseur pour l'échafaud - Miles Davis
I came across this recently and knew nothing about it. Picked it up and can't stop listening to it. It is a great listen on a Sunday afternoon on the deck for just clearing the mind a bit...which I am sure we all can use.
Done a little reading on it since picking it up and it is a very interesting back story.

Ascenseur pour l'échafaud - Miles Davis
Neat - I saw this film several years ago, cool French New Wave crime thing - didn't realize the soundtrack was Miles Davis, those 1950s early 60s mod films have a lot of interesting jazz. Gotta check it out again, thanks!

I like a few listed here. Will have to look for the Singles extended track release.
One of my favorites is Heartworn Highways. It's a documentary does that count?
Also Boogie Nights and Dead Presidents is good. Each were a double release.
The Goodfellas soundtrack, isn't it missing a bunch of tracks that appeared in the movie though? Same with Casino...for some reason was there a problem getting all the songs from the movies on those releases?
Pulp Fiction is great.

Goodfellas
"Rags to Riches" – Tony Bennett
"Sincerely" – The Moonglows
"Speedoo" – The Cadillacs
"Stardust" – Billy Ward and His Dominoes
"Look in My Eyes" – The Chantels
"Life Is but a Dream" – The Harptones
"Remember (Walking in the Sand)" – The Shangri-Las
"Baby, I Love You" – Aretha Franklin
"Beyond the Sea" – Bobby Darin
"Sunshine of Your Love" – Cream
"Mannish Boy" – Muddy Waters
"Layla (Piano Exit)" – Derek and the Dominos

As previously mentioned, Local Hero is good, and someone brought up The Long Riders recently.
I haven't heard it for a long time but something with Cooder and Lindley can't be bad!
