favorite Robert Hunter lyric?

Comes a time when the blind man takes your hand
Says, "Don't you see?
Gotta make it somehow on the dreams you still believe
Don't give it up, you got an empty cup
That only love can fill, only love can fill"

1. Just keep Truckin on.
2. All good things in all good time.
3. The Dire Wolf collects this due.
4. Watch each card you play and play it slow.
5. Once in awhile you get shown the light, in the strangest of places if you look at it right.
6. Every silver lining's got a Touch of Grey
7. What a long strange trip its been.
8. Let there be songs to fill the air.
9. Comes a time when the blind man takes your hand and says "Don't you see." Got to make it somehow on the things you still believe. Don't give it up, you've got an empty cup only love can fill.
10. Such a long, long time to be gone and a short time to be there.

"Reuben walked the streets of New Orleans till dawn
with the ghost of Cerise in his empty arms
and her hair hung gently down"

Robert Hunter was a tie dyed version of Bernie Taupin.

"Mama, Mama, Many Worlds I've come since I first left home ..."

I had a hard run
Running from your window
I was all night running, running, running, I wonder if you care?
I had a run-in
Run around and run down
Run around a corner
Run smack into a tree
Thanks for the great lyrics Robert Hunter

At her request, Ripple and Brokedown Palace were played at my 1st wife’s funeral
If I knew the way, I would take you home
Fare you well, fare you well, I love you more than words can tell...

Reach out your hand if your cup be empty
If your cup is full may it be again
Let it be known there is a fountain
That was not made by the hands of men

I run into Charlie Fog,
Blacked my eye and he kicked my dog,
My doggie turned to me and he said,
Let's head back to Tennessee Jed.
I woke up a felin' mean,
Went down to play the slot machine,
The wheels turned around, and the letters read,
You better head back to Tennessee Jed.
And btw on Dirt Farmer when Levon sang this song I always wondered if he truly was Tennessee Jed

Always was partial to Friend of the Devil.
But I’ve also never got deep into the Dead catalogue.

If all you’ve got to live for is what you left behind
Get yourself a powder charge & seal that silver mine
Lost my boots in transit, pile of smoking leather
Nailed a retread to my boots & prayed for better weather

If I was the sun Id look for shade
If I was a bed Id stay unmade
You who choose to lead must follow
But if you fall you fall alone
You knew the pay was pathetic
Its a shame those boys couldnt be more copacetic

Let my inspiration flow in token lines suggesting rhythm
that will not forsake me until my tale is told and done.

We used to play for silver
Now we play for life
One's for sport and one's for blood
At the point of a knife
Now the die is shaken
Now the die must fall
There ain't a winner in this game
Who don't go home with all
Not with all...
Leaving Texas
Fourth day of July
Sun so hot, clouds so low
The eagles filled the sky
Catch the Detroit Lightning out of Santa Fe
Great Northern out of Cheyenne
From sea to shining sea

Not a lyric, but here is something about how genuine his songs could feel. In his book of lyrics "A Box of Rain" that was released in the mid-1990s, he added this note at the bottom of the page for "Cumberland Blues":
The best compliment I ever had on a lyric was from an old guy who'd worked at the Cumberland mine. He said, "I wonder what the guy who wrote this song would've thought if he'd ever known something like the Grateful Dead was going to do it."

"most of the cats you meet on the street speak of true love,
most of the time they're sittin and cryin at home,
1 of these days they know they gotta get goin,
outta the door and down to the street all alone"
Truckin'
loved I Know You Rider lyrics too but too bad not written by him

Some come to laugh their past away
Some come to make it just one more day
Whichever way your pleasure tends
If you plant ice you're gonna harvest wind
