Favorite live albums

I like Billy Joe Shaver and his son Eddy's live discs Live At Smith's Olde Bar and the acoustic beauty Live At The Bluebird.
Awesome pick

Excluding the obvious ABB at the Fillmore, for me an equally great live set from that same 1971 era is Chicago at Carnegie Hall.
Although most everyone, including some original band members, have panned the less than stellar sound quality/production, that set really captures a young, hungry, raw and very rockin’ original band in total musical and creative heat. Lots of extended jamming, sophisticated arrangements and some absolutely incredible guitarwork from the late Terry Kath. Cetera plays some killer melodic bass and Danny Seraphine is blazing behind the drum kit throughout. It also captures the feel and excitement of a very real, early 70’s concert “event” at a world renown venue. In my mind at least, a must have live set. Even has good old Scott Muni delivering the opening night introduction. Even if you aren’t a fan of the band or their music, its worth checking out just for TK’s stellar guitar playing alone.

Good pick -- the Terry Kath Experience DVD is special -- just like he was
two other live albums that may/may not have been mentioned are the James Gang's live record, also the live one by the WinterS Brothers (not Johnny's & Edgar Winter's 1976 live one, altho that's very good too)

Dave Alvin’s Out in California
Ian Hunter’s Welcome to the Club
Most honourable mention to Rush’s All the Worlds a Stage
I will second ABBDutchfan’s outrage that it took so long to mention Rory Gallagher’s Irish Tour (fantastic record)
Speaking of Rory live check out the BBC sessions (2 cd set with some very very good tunes on it as well)
Another I really like is 11-17-70 by Elton John. Not his most popular but a good record of what he was back then. Recorded at a radio station, 48 years ago still sounds fresh. Recently copied it from my old vinyl and put it on my mp3, in regular rotation now

I'll throw in a few:
- Rolling Stones, King Biscuit Flour Hour, 1973 - primo Mick Taylor.
- John Mayall - the 1982 Bluesbreakers Reiunion - ditto.
-Zephyr: Live at Art's Bar and Grill - some of the best Tommy Bolin playing ever!
-Tommy Bolin & Friends: Live at Ebbets field 1974 - ditto.
-Genesis: Live At Wembley Pool - best Genesis live recording ever.

There's more than one?
My thought exactly.

Live Bullet was mentioned in the opening post. Other than AFE that is my favorite live album. The other one from Seger is Nine Tonight. They did a good job of not copying Live Bullet. Mixed up the setlist a lot.
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

Aretha- Live in Paris, Van Morrison- A Night in San Francisco, Muddy "Mississippi" Waters Live, Warren Haynes Band - Live at the Moody

A Night In San Francisco reminds of a great live record of almost the same name (IIRC), "Friday Night In San Francisco" by Paco DeLucia, Al DeMeola and John McLaughlin

Lots of great posts, havent read all - pretty square but anyone mention Neil Diamond "Hot August Nights"? 1972 Greek Theater. Zenith peak performance.

An under-rated Live disc is Eric Clapton's Rainbow Concert from '73. The original album had only 6 songs leaving off some of the Derek and The Dominos Live material. The disc was an effort by Eric's friends trying to yank him back onstage while he struggled with conquering his demons. A fabulous group which included Pete Townsend, Ronnie Wood, and Steve Winwood among others.
The '95 remastered disc has the full list of songs from the 2 shows which is stellar, It is fun to pick out the pickers. If you love Mr. Clapton it's a sweet piece of the enigma known as Eric.
Here's a Wiki blurb....

Ummagumma already mentioned but I thought this was boss

Lots of music for me to look up here!
A few that I'm not sure have been mentioned:
Black Crowes - Live at The Greek with Jimmy Page
Lou Reed - Rock 'N' Roll Animal ( wore this LP out! )
Kenny Wayne Shepperd - LIVE! In Chicago
Guess Who - Live At The Paramount
Tragically Hip - That Night In Toronto
Thin Lizzy - Live and Dangerous
I recently got Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit - Live From The Ryman and love it!

I think the ones I listen to have been mentioned in other posts. When I saw the Ian Hunter album mentioned I was reminded of the following story. Part of it was recorded at My Father’s Place and we were at the show. Silver Needles was a new song at the time and he ran through it many times stating he was recording it for the new album. By the 7th time or so, people were getting restless and started harassing him and throwing things at the stage. He got the message and went on with the rest of the show.

One of my favorites: Listening to Pentangle Sweet Child , good Christmas listen, the live disk. Royal Festival Hall, London, 69.
cover art by Peter Blake, better known for the cover art on Sgt.Pepper.

Larry Coryell At The Village Gate
with Mervin Bronson, Harry Wilkinson, and Julie Coryell. This album burns from start to finish.

I've seen Rainbow's "Final Vinyl" and "On Stage" mentioned, but I'll throw in a plug for the double disc "Rainbow Live in Germany" as well. It is a much longer show than "On Stage," with a great version of "Stargazer" in it. It is a Blackmore fest.

Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush - Real Live!
I play this one a lot ....

Zappa & Capt. Beefheart, Bongo Fury
Billy Cobham and George Duke, Live in Europe
Deep Purple's two concertos with symphony orchestras, "Concerto for Group & Orchestra" 1969, and "Live w/the London Symphony Orchestra" 30 years later
Glass Harp, Live at Carnegie Hall 1971 -- for a debut album this one's hard to top -- so is Phil Keaggy's guitar playing
on & on this list could go, good thread

A few I like that I haven't seen mentioned
The Gregg Allman Tour
Joni Mitchell-Miles of Aisles
Teresa Brewer-Live at Carnegie Hall and Montreux Switzerland
Renaissance-Live at Carnegie Hall
Jimmy Buffett-Feeding Frenzy

Some all-time favorites; LAFE Deluxe
John Mayall, "Turning Point" & "Jazz-Blues Fusion"
WSP, Live/Classic City
Miles Davis, Agharta
Weather Report - Live
GA Tour

Neil Young and CH - Live at the Filmore
Aretha franklin - Live at the Filmore
Pink Floyd - Live at Pompeii - I assume there is a soundtrack album for this
Led Zepp - TSRTSame (does anyone remember laughter??)
The Quintet - Live at Massey Hall
Jerry Jeff Walker - Viva Terlingua
The Band - Last Waltz (right up there with LAFE)
Woodstock - Various - Give me an F!!!
Govt Mule - Summer 2017 Artpark, Barfalo New York
Forgot to add Pearl Jam Night 2 Seattle 2018, and most of their live boots.

I grabbed a couple CD's at the Tommy Emmanuel show, I am loving his disc Live! At The Ryman. a sweet spin.

Found an old 33 1/3 Columbia live album at a yard sale that is okay if you like some bluegrass/folk music. I do maybe a couple times a month.
It's Flatt and Scruggs live at New York's Carnegie Hall.
Got live Little Feet on right now.

Joe Walsh. You Can't Argue With A Sick Mind
The Outlaws. Bring'em Back Alive

would like to hear that Flatt & Scruggs album
I got pretty much all of the Outlaws albums as soon as they came out. I really liked the live album.
I saw them right after the 1st album came out (warmed up for CDB) and again after the live album came out. It seemed like they played the entire live album, note for note. kinda turned me off to them. Didn't listem much after that

papa john creach kills it on "Feel So Good"
