Farewell to the virtual taproot of British rock music.  A list of his alumni is a who's who of Blues rooted rock music.

Very Big Loss - was active basically right up to the end

If you had Back To The Roots in your collection, people knew you were in the know as a music fan

RIP John Mayall

RIP. Man did John have some hot lineups over the years.

And several well known members including Eric Clapton.

@robertdee Wakeup Call was a great album as well.  Don't know how many Mayall did after that one.  It featured his cover of Maydell which appeared on the ABB's, Hittin the Note.  Didn't realize until then that the song was written by Warren Haynes and Johnny Neel.

I saw Mayall several times in the 90's.  He was known (in part) for all the guitarists that came through his ranks.  Coco Montoya was in the band for all of the shows that I saw.  Mayall was a little like Col. Bruce in that so many great players developed through his mentoring and tutelage.  I miss both of them!

Clapton hot guitar on Stormy Monday June 17th 1966 Flamingo Club in London with John Mayall on organ and vocals at the end. Jack Bruce on bass. I had forgotten Bruce was a Blues breaker.

Clapton, Green, Taylor, Almond, and Mandel are fave's of mine that passed thru The Bluesbreakers.  Gonna have to watch my "70th Birthday Concert" Blu-Ray tonight.  RIP to an integral aspect of my musical journey.

I loved his album Turning Point when it first came out, and still do.  No drums, but electric guitar and bass, and harmonica.  In my opinion it holds up extremely well, given its age.  (Kind of a fusion of blues, unplugged, and jazz.)  Of course, I love the beano album and hard road and bare wires, but it always seems to me that Turning Point gets overlooked.

What a legacy he leaves; RIP John Mayall

My first rock concert:  Taj Mahal, John Mayall, BB King at the Fillmore East.  Tickets were $3.50, $4.50 and $5.50.  We splurged and got the $4.50 seats!  All three artists killed it, and my concert career was off to the races.  I learned to play a watered down version of "Room to Move" on the mouth harp (yes @Randall, from Turning Point!).  My one and only accomplishment on that instrument!  Fast forward to 2016 at the Bayfront Blues Festival in Duluth MN - my second and final John Mayall performance.

John was a catalyst that got so many folks into the Blues - he impressed me as an authentic, no BS, no theatrics player - "it's all about the music."

Another great one has left the building.

I'll get right to it...

@robertdee:  Thanks for posting that tribute by Eric Clapton.  Very touching and very emotional.

Huge loss. Can't express just how important John was to the British blues scene. I own a boxset of his and probably a dozen more albums , all great
