Who sang Wharfrat?

Did Bobby get energized during the break?

I think someone's vocal timing and singing in general is effing up the vocals...Bobby? 😉

Trey playing Jerry's part note for note....He's Gone 🙁

Got chills when they did He's Gone For Good. Who's the third guy on drums?

Cherries sound good, a walk to the fridge is in order. Also digging this drum section though it seems we have moved on into space.

I'm not sure. Between FB and reading this forum I've been listening to the show more than watching.

Digging Bobby's playing on transition, yet it needed someone to call out the change...I turned away to type...was it Bobby? Never heard the Dead call out a change...they chanced it 😉 Bobby's singing is very very fine here, and Trey and Phil are locked in perfectly....I wish the keys were more in the mix too,but very cool vocals on Miracle neediness! play it Trey!

Interesting song for this point...poignant and age and reality based song choice....Phil,as always, is tremendous and Bobby,is powerful....if he holds it together! 😉

Bobby was responsible for getting Miracle going. For the most part his vocals have been good tonight. Would of been cool if Trey pushed the tempo in Miracle a little.

Loving this Death Don't Have No Mercy. One of my favorites songs. Doesn't matter if it is the Dead or Hot Tuna or anyone else.

Very very well done.Trey was excellent...Phil,smiling on Treys lead, also gave him a look to cut it for time I believe.

Phil seems to be controlling the flow....I truly love Phil and its been an excellent two shows, but are they taking too few chances? Too careful, perhaps? A good strategy, perhaps?Always reason to complain, but I'm enjoying this!

It was. Also really enjoyed reading your posts through out the night. The way you describe what's going on added to the couch tour experience.

I bought the youtube live stream for tonight's show, Levi's Stadium, 6/28.

I've only come around to the Dead in the last 7 or 8 years but I'm really glad I tuned in...........I LOVED it, and the more I listen, the more I have an appreciation for them. And this current 7 piece band is so strong that you have to wonder if they won't do a yearly reunion.

Thanks so much...recall the days when lots of people hung here for a show....at least we can talk to one another 😉

Couple of more thoughts for tonight...at least! HA!

The pattern is locking in....1 hour and change opening set,1 hour break, total show 3 and change hours or so...sound right?

Second set tonight was preoccupied with loss/death with a sugar magnolia thrown in there with D&S to give some hopefulness. 😉

Other patterns self evident....

I'm curious how those who were there saw this and if they can listen after the show ,how they feel it sounds not being there...their comparative experience, and experience of being there are of great interest.

And,I wonder if Chicago shows are different.

Bet there were some shining eyes in the crowd during these ... Haven't had a chance to listen to either of these shows but love your commentary, Effie - looking forward to hearing what you've been hearing when I finally get to them. Grin Thanks for these posts that bring back memories of threads gone by where shows have been followed and shared. Cool

Wow, just woke up after going to both of these shows! Here's some stuff you might have missed:

Tickets were going for $30-40 outside the show. Easy to get in!!
First night was all old, old stuff, from early on. If they had done a set like that back in the '80's when I was on tour, we all would have collectively melted and exploded into one! They did a nice job. Expectations were mixed among the crowd and the boys were getting their footing. I was on the floor both nights. Good spot for dancing and the crowd was dancing away in the back of the floor.
During the last song of first set, a beautiful double rainbow appeared in the sky! It was fitting as people either took it to mean Jerry was "visiting" or due to the recent supreme court decision, it was a blessing. It was beautiful. First set seemed short, but during the break they showed home movies of Jerry and Bob snorkling!! It was cool. Bill Walton got huge cheers every time the camera showed him. Show went right up to midnight (which I think is as late as they are allowed to play there) and Bob was having some trouble with his equipment. Hornsby needed to be turned up in the mix. And they shouldn't let Bob sing Jerry songs. Morning Dew? Bruce should have done it. Trey more then held his own.

Day 2:
Back to the tunes we all know! First set was too slow. When it finally got going, with Alabama Getaway, Bobby took it back down with Black Peter (or do we call it African American Peter?) I ran into Mountain Girl, Nicky Scully, Trixie Garcia and John Mayer. Mayer was really into it and I watched him singing along to most of it, raising his hands up and enjoying himself! The highlights from the floor were Loser, Wharf Rat, He's Gone, Hell in a Bucket and Sugar Mag. Death Don't have No Mercy was good, but Trey doesn't do the blues very well, imho. He plays too many notes, too fast and misses the nuance of what the blues are all about.
Tickets were again cheap and easily obtained and folks were in good spirits. Nice to see them take a bow at the end and for Billy and Mickey to address the crowd each night. Second show, while not the better setlist, did have better sound mix and it was nice to hear Bruce trying to keep Bobby on-key and "in" the song! Oh, and Phil has trouble singing some of the tunes, so I think they should let him harmonize and keep him off the lead vocals. But that might just be me...well, off to Chicago!

I watched a little bit of last nights show and I gotta say I was a bit taken back how off they sounded.

Bob looks (and sounds) really bad. I hope he's OK.

I can handle Phil's vocals... someone said it was like listening to Bill Shatner doing a lounge act version of the Dead.

They just don't have the energy anymore... nor should they.

I streamed it, (Hey front row seats, free parking, open bar and I control the volume!) It seemed like a very uneven show that never hit its stride. Of course, Phil was awesome all night but Bobby was looking pretty tired and Trey had no clue what was going on (but then I've always disliked Phish), and only Bruce's singing was consistent.

Lots of great memories though, their 50th anniversary, my 40th as a Dead Head (3-23-75), my wife's first show (9-12-81) where we were melded together forever, 20 years since Jerry's passing, and everything between...

What a trip!

I just threw on the "Hell in the Bucket" and I'm thinking it sounds good and looks great.

I am surprised at the aisle security.

Check it out for yourself folks...

listened to most of the 1st show

set list is great
improv / jamming is about as good as you can hope for in this setting. St Stephen jam was great.
Phil is the man!
Jerry's shoes are impossible to fill, I think Trey did a very good job
vox were terrible at times - Phil, I love your bass playing but the singing...

Thank you for posting- I was curious about these shows. They sounded good in places, but they really, really needed Warren on vocals and guitar. 😉 Looks like everybody had a good time on the second night.

"Fare Thee Well's" playing in movie theatres live this weekend for a 5 hour show. Just wondering if its worth it to see. Was it a great show? vocals, performance, etc or better to just catch it on the dvd later?
