Going back to that Buick commercial... meaning these guys didn't emulate the pattern of many of the Dead shows I attended.

Song placement... early Drumz exploration...

Just saying it was mixed up a bit.

Agreed. by the 90s, the Dead were set in a pattern of what songs went where (1st set, 2nd set pre-drums, 2nd set after space). they've broken out of that, which is great. Help>slip>Franklin's tended to be a 2nd set opener (though when it was just Franklin's, was also played in the first set). Glad they're mixing things up

Exactly. I didn't mean it as a criticism, just a nod to a bit of a change. And, in truth, not much of a change from what Phil and Further have been doing.

Good night all!!

Didn't hear any criticism. Just discussion between a bunch of music lovers Smile

If anyone's still up, the http://mixlr.com/phishfiend/ link is replaying the show (on Jack Straw, 1st set, song 2)

I'm one who is WAY late getting into the Dead. I've only come around in the last 7 or 8 years, even though I'm 60. Sunday 6/28, the second of two nights at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, I bought the live youtube stream ($19.95). Absolutely loved it, I thought it was one of the greatest things I've ever heard in my life. Very "song" oriented.

Tonight I got home right around intermission and discovered the live audio link in this thread. I listened to the entire second set + encore and I must say I have never been so damn bored in my life. Had to be over 2-1/2 hours. Sounded like endless, pointless noodling to me. It reminded me why it took me until age 52 to start to get into them.

It's weird, but there are two sides to the Grateful Dead: One I love with a passion. The other, I am bored beyond what words can say.

I've already ordered tomorrow night (7/4) on my cable via pay-per-view ($30.00). It'll be interesting because this will be the third show (for me) of this run, and the tie-breaker show.

Don't throw a blanket over the whole history of the dead tonight if it's not something that lives up to the hype.....We've talked a lot recently about the dead and I'm just happy they're playing and honestly I'm not expecting much other than to have some fun with it. I don't think it'll ever match up to what they did...and you know I only like pockets of the dead and I'm not a fan of their material between losing Pig pen and finding Brent. 73 - 78 I could live without so if/when they play that material always depends on how much I'll like a show...Saturday at Levi was more my speed especially second set classic 68 live dead material right in my wheel house.

Going to my cousins house today and he's streaming the show...so lets see what gets played....

But if you're expecting consistent shows of smoking hot dead....it never happened if there was ever a hot/cold band it's the dead...

Try to find their Fillmore east run from late April 71....those are some of my favorite shows...I'm sure there's many versions out on the tapers and download sites

I ordered tonight and tomorrow on Directv. I must say that it would be nice if they had a commentator while we wait for the band to take the stage.....talk about dead air.....

Saturday Shakedown!

It's weird because after you have listened to a lot of Dead shows you can tell what they are tuning for most times. Bob sounds dreadful. Liking Hornsby but song is muddling around right now.

Sounding much better than a lot of "Shakedown"

It's weird because after you have listened to a lot of Dead shows you can tell what they are tuning for most times.

It used to be easier before they had a closed circuit communication system allowing them to speak to each other through their ear pieces.

Back in the day the tuning up took a long time but you could often hear several songs introduced and teased during the tuning as the band decided which song to play.

Well that's primarily what I enjoy best. 69-90. But mostly 70s Dead. Like recently I've been listening to the Europe 72 box. And they take forever to tune and it's easy to tell where they are going next.

I listened to the entire second set + encore and I must say I have never been so damn bored in my life.

You are obviously one of the few to have never made love to my Ex-wife. Talk about boring! 😮

My first show was December of nineteen and seventy eight. Keith and Donna were in their last couple of months.

The Brent years are my favorite, only because that is when I saw the bulk of my shows. And I saw a bunch. I appreciate the 70's, they just were not my time.

I would really like to hear Phish do some Dead covers this summer. I think they might.

I'll call a "US Blues" encore after a "Not Fade Away" 2nd set closer.

Is Little Red Rooster a Willie Dixon tune? He would have turned 100 on July 1st.

That may be the best set of the 3 shows.
