Facebook SUCKS!

I was on FB for a short time and came to the realization that it was no more a "social" site than sitting at your computer alone. Seems a lot of posters have left here the past couple years and that is sad. I originally joined FB because I felt I had to just to keep up with my musician friends in the area. All of them had stopped using .coms and were all going to FB. So to see where anyone was gigging I had to go to FB. I hate feeling forced to do anything, and that is exactly what I felt about FB. That I HAD to be on there or risk not being one of the "cool kids". And all the political BS and everybody had an opinion about freaking everything! I just gave it up.
Here is an excellent article I read about "life without FB". Take a minute and pass it on to all your FB "friends".

Facebook is what you make of it. It's a great way to share photos and information and "interact" with people who are too far away to see regularly (though I still prefer to call my parents to chat). If you are a musician or artist, it's a great way to share your work.
But, that means that annoying narcissists are going to often be the loudest people there. You can always choose to block them and not listen. Just like this site, you can choose what to read. I find it odd that people come here, a music fan site, to get nasty and smug about politics. I choose not to listen. People who make facebook their world will find themselves crushed for those moments that it isn't available and suddenly have to face reality.
I will say, I am really glad I wasn't a baby during the time of facebook. Kids are going to grow up with their whole lives online whether they like it or not.

I enjoy Facebook and am on there every day. As far as abusive people, deleting them as a friend is only a computer click away, as porkchopbob said.
I've reconnected with MANY friends and acquaintances from as far back as high school that I would not be in communication with at ALL if it were not for Facebook.
And yeah, musicians love it, they can advertise their gigs for free. Remember 20-30 years ago when musicians used to run around town stapling flyers to telephone poles?

facebook is easily controllable....101.

I love facebook.
Because of it I was able to reconnect with my best friend from high school and chat for the last three years of his life. (cancer SUCKS)
I also got back in touch with a high school girlfriend and we've been living together for a year and a half now, I'm happier now than I've been in 30 years.

Yeah you seem like it.
And who asked you for your worthless opinion???

One of the best things about facebook is you can delete/block a$$holes like pb when they post garbage.

X2 These poor kids are plastered on there daily. Peoples' entire lives on display in some cases. Pictures of breakfast, kids, more kids, some kittens or dogs, some friends and their kids with your kids, pictures of lunch, comments on pictures 3 years old so they bounce up, pictures of dinner, pictures of the summer vacation where some think putting 20 pictures of their teenage daughter wearing a bikini on the internet is a good idea.
People worry about privacy and information from companies and the Govt and then go on FB and document it all for the world to see.

I enjoy Facebook. As has been mentioned, you make it what you want.
I agree FB has probably impacted this sight. I do miss the action here . In fact, this place was like FB for Allman Brothers fans.
I also agree that I'm glad I didn't grow up with FB. Include cell phones and the internet too.

I am not a fan of face book ..just a personal choice I guess. I loved coming here and DB sites , always interesting many great topics and personalities ... my favorite band and musicians but there will always be someone who will try to reek havoc in a place of where there is peace ,fun , music etc ..but as they move in .. you always have the choice to move out and find other places to go..
FB is a great place for family members to catch up ,veiw family pictures and events they can not go to also like photoron mentioned catching up with friends from school and rekindling a long lost romance , sweet . Thats wonderful Ron .
I suppose if you like being on there daily ..to much other stuff to do in real time and real life ...
So if that is for you enjoy ...not for me.

Also, as easy as it is to focus on all of the annoying people (I totally agree with the food pics, CM), the number of times social media has aided police in capturing a criminal on the loose or reunited a lost dog with its owner makes facebook not totally suck. If a flood of baby pics, political jibber jabber, and general whining is ruining facebook, it is the people, not the forum that sucks.

that's pretty cool.
I don't do FB myself, most of the people I knew are in the past for a reason 😛 but that's a pretty cool thing, Ron. I'm glad for ya.

FB can be curated but I spend too much time deleting posts. Honestly I don't like seeing some of the things posted by people I thought were rational.
The comments are the worst, racist, mysogynist...just rampant rudeness.
It is good for fam and friends, and a lot of musicians do use it to pimp their gigs. However, all the same info on two pages in the weekly paper.
As to kids? I have watched several kids of friends and fam kind of grow up on there...by age three they are posing...are we in for a generation of narcissists?
One thing for sure, none of this is going anywhere.

I admit that I am a lurker only and infrequent comment on other people's posts ( did I even say that right? ) and generally view FB as one more thing I feel like I need to do / check.
I do appreciate how it can connect people in ways not previously possible. My wife who stays at home uses it to quickly disseminate and receive important health and safety type of information. For example, there was a string of robberies in our neighborhood recently and the APB used by the police to spread awareness was beamed around almost instantaneously. Same thing for a "white, windowless van looking to lure children".
In that sense, I am grateful for it.

Like Ron said I love FB because if their are assh_les and there always are you can block them and they then can't see anything you write and vice versa. I still check in here from time to time but there are more people I met right here on Facebook than there are here anymore. I met a lot of cool people on this site but have gotten to know each better on Facebook. Also being able to connect with friends scattered around the country and even some in other countries make Facebook a very cool place. I have connected with old friends I thought I never would have before FB. You can do everything you do here on FB and they have pages and groups for every band and musician talked about here with tons of touring info. It is a shame that some left here completely for FB but I am glad I have both places so I can still connect with you FB haters here and connect with everyone who left HTW plus others over there on FB.

I used to be down on Facebook. But I've learned to like it and accept it as the phenomenal communication tool that it actually is. A friend of mine recently went on a two month adventure in Australia and New Zealand. The pictures and captions he posted were really interesting. He found ways to keep people connected to his amazing trip. It was a lot better than looking at photos after he returned. I actually felt included in the trip. He went to several festivals, traveled to locations I'm likely to never visit, and ate foods I've never experienced. He was able to answer questions and really give a great accounting of a fantastic voyage.
I do cringe sometimes at the personal stuff folks post. I wouldn't choose to do that, but who am I to judge what someone else does.

as others have said you can control FB if you know how. if there's too much political bs from someone i can just unfollow them while still remaining friends. plus there's some pretty awesome ABB related pages there too. it is what you make of it.
