Well, saw this show in Dallas last night, and it was awesome!! Great night of several artists paying tribute to Jimi Hendrix. Buddy Guy, Zakk Wylde, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jonny Lang, Eric Johnson, Dweezil Zappa, The Slide Brothers, Ana Papovic, and others all played. Here's a few highlights:

Buddy Guy - Lousiana Blues, Who Knows, Hey Joe, Red House

Kenny Wayne Shepherd - Gypsy Eyes, I Don't Live Today, Castles Made Of Sand, Voodoo Chile, Voodoo Child(SLight Return)

Zakk Wylde - Manic Depression, Little Wing, Purple Haze

Jonny Lang - All Along The Watchtower, Spanish Castle Magic, The Wind Cries Mary, Fire

Eric Johnson - Power Of Soul, Third Stone From The Sun, Are You Experienced

Brad Whitford & Caesar Rojas were special guests during the show. Brad played with Zakk, Jonny, and Buddy. Caesar jammed with Ana Popovic and Buddy.

It was a great night. I'll definitely go to this show again, but hopefully it will be on a weekend next time. Week nights aren't the best nights for shows.

Great line up and songlist.

Did Zakk play any Allmans songs? 😉

What did Dweezil play on?

I saw this show probably 8 or 9 years ago at the Fox in Atlanta.

Sounds ultra boss - will try to catch this if it comes around. Treat to catch Eric Johnson too. Has Orianthi ever been in that revue? She has some decent Hendrix schooling.

Looks like they just played Oregon. The Portland show was February 17th at Arlene Schnitzer: http://www.experiencehendrixtour.com/dates.php?show=2017-02-17

I went to the Portland show about eight years ago. It was incredible- my favorite tune was "Angel". It featured Doyle Bramhall II on guitar and vocals. It was the best Hendrix cover I've ever heard. Mitch Mitchell came out to join Chris Layton on drums for Angel. It was the last time Mitch Mitchell ever played, he died in a Portland hotel near the theater just a few days later- a mysterious death. He was easily one of my favorite drummers of all time. After the show I got Billy Cox to sign a CD at the table, how cool to meet Jimi's best friend! I also got to say "hi" to the late great Hubert Sumlin- he played "Killin' Floor" with Buddy Guy- just like on the original Howlin' Wolf version.

I was thinking about going to the Eugene show, but I'm just not into Zakk Wylde. But now I wish I'd seen Buddy Guy play "Who Knows" and "Red House"!

😛

Why was Mitch Mitchell's death mysterious?

At that time (November 2008) , the only explanation was that Mitch had died in his sleep in his room at the Benson Hotel of "natural causes". (Motel staff found his body.) For several years, there was no public update on the autopsy. But I checked Wikipedia this morning and apparently Mitch was quite ill during the tour from alcohol problems. He was planning to return to England the day he died. But apparently his remains were buried in Seattle, I wonder if his body was buried in the same cemetery where Jimi's body was buried? I also wonder if Mitch planned on "Angel" being his swan song- almost like a Zen death poem. RIP Mitch Mitchell.

Zakk didn't play any Allmans songs. The opening of the night was Billy Cox, Dweezil Zappa, and Chris Layton doing Freedom, Stone Free, and a couple other tunes. Dweezil jammed with a couple others as well. There was alot of music played. If a full setlist is posted, I'll post it here as well.
