Just gave this album a listen and I like it. I remembered Crazy Love and Pegasus but I think the two best songs on that album are Need Your Love So Bad and Just Aint Easy.

"Just Ain't Easy" is one of Gregg's best. Love it.

"Need Your Love So Bad" is nice, but all it does is makes me want to put on Peter Green's version. I'm actually surprised they chose this song considering how heartbreaking Green's is.

"Pegasus" never really did anything for me. Always felt like the product of a DICKEY BETTS INSTRUMENTAL GENERATOR. Especially when Rook starts playing the same bass line as "High Falls".

I always kind of liked "Try It One More Time" for how bizarre it is. It's kind of a lame duet, whether you read it thematically or literally, but there's something kind of catchy in its dumb funk.

It's a cool tune that "could" have been "much better" w/o the duet thing...

I so looked forward to this record and was at Tower the day it was released......A couple of spins and into the bin it went. "Pegasus" was worthy, but could have done w/o the long, drawn out ending. I agree about "Just Ain't Easy" good stuff. "Bind Love" and "Good Clean Fun" are cut from the exact same mold...."Crazy Love" has Dickey's "Out to get me" & "California Blues" slide work and Bonnie's screeching vocals....I always thought "Can't Take it With You" should have been resurrected and would have made a great show opener....

Just Ain't Easy is a great tune, my favorite off the disc followed closely by Dickey's Gem Sail Away.

From the respectful start of the tune "Let's do one for the bruh's" to Dickey's vocals and guitar licks make this one an Allman Brothers classic. On Just Ain't Easy, Pegasus, and Sail Away Dickey shines as a musician, Sheer beauty. The disc is held back by some hook and riff coyness, but overall a strong statement.

Greggs organ solo is great on Pegasus. Love most of the songs except Crazy Love. Also thought the album was produced well; sounds great.

Just Ain't Easy and Sail Away are really beautiful.

Crazy Love was an accurate description of life on the road.....

This.

Mac’s version is sublime.

Also, just a general comment on that Mac era: I loved the production. I can’t describe it to make sense, but it just sounded right.

I love Try it one more time, hearing Gregg and Dickey sing together on a song is fantastic.

Agree Fender - Try it one more time, just works. Just Ain't Easy and Can't take it are also good tracks.
Its not a album that I would immediately think of talking about ABB but had some decent
commercial success from what I remember.

Butch said the only reason Enlighten Rogues did well in sales is because Tom Dowd produced it. Butch said that version of the ABB didnt have good chemistry. David Goldflies and Dan Toler were not good fits and it got worse when they added Mike Lawler and replaced Jaimoe with David Toler and moved to another record lable. Butch said he regretted voted to remove Jaimoe the first gug theybplayed with Toler. Said David Toler tried to emulate Butch's style. Everytime Butch started to play something David Toler would start playing it. I think Butch indicated on this site that they voted Jaimoe out because Dickey got upset Jaimoe wanted to audit the band's finances. I believe it may have been Candy Oakley you pushed Jaimoe to challenge the band on his pay.

Anyway Enlighten Rogues sold over 800,000 copies. It didnt sell as well as Fillmore, Peach and Brothers and Sisters which all sold well over a million copies and went Platinum. It was the ABB's last album to go Gold until Where It All Begins in 1994 which was the ONLY album after the 1989 reunion to earn a Gold record award on sales of close to 600,000.

Not counting packages such as the Dreams box set (Gold) or A Decade of Hits (Plantium) which were after the 1989 reunion because they contain old material.

I liked it. Danny Toler was a great player. He did a lot of gigs with Gregg as well. Jaimoe never should have been done the way they did him, regardless of Candy or not. I really hope Jai and Dickey have buried the hatchet. There was some indication that had occurred.

Jaimoe sat in with Dickey when he played in Macon last year. I think they are good.... Cool
