First of all, I've never even seen a picture of Duane with such a guitar. His? Who knows?

Most of these guitars are touted as, "played by _____". A couple of my own guitars have been "played by" some pretty heavy guys. Maybe I can get $300,000 for these? Can you imagine the glee experienced by a music store owner when a known heavyweight stops in to shop and tries out a dozen or so guitars? "Raisin' the price on these babies!" 😉

All I know about Duane is he played several guitars during Allman Joys, Hourglass including a parts guitar that was a Telecaster with a Stratocaster neck. During Duane's time as a session player at Muscle Shoals, Duane is said to have played a Stratocaster and indeed all the pictures I've seen of Duane at Muscle Shoals he has a Strat.

Very early in the ABB Duane had a Goltop Les Paul which Derek just played at MSG. And a Gibson ES-335. Apparently Dickey got that guitar when Duane died. I only saw Duane play a ES-335 once and Dickey played a Strat and it was early 1970 if I remember correctly. Supposedly Dickey eventually gave the ES-335 or 345 to Eddy Shaver plus an old 1955 Strat that became Shaver's number one Dickey got from Gregg and Willie Nelson has those guitars now.

We know Duane later swapped the Goldtop for a Les Paul sunburst then later his number one was a tobacco burst Les Paul with Duane on the back spelled with old frets. And a 1961 SG Dickey gave Duane to use for slide so didnt have to retune.

The Clapton Taylor guitar and the Jimmy Page Strat selling for such prices!!! If Clapton and Page actually played those guitars in a concert, it would be as rare as Duane playing a concert with a 335. Perhaps once or twice. Just because Jimi Hendrix played a couple of songs once or twice with a Gibson Flying V, doesnt make that guitar worth 300 thousand dollars to me.

The evidence he owned it, according to this site, consists of letters showing he traded it for another guitar. https://www.groundguitar.com/duane-allman-guitars-and-gear/duane-allman-fender-coronado-2/

Well, I guess it is Duane's Coronado. Just the same - if I had $30,000 to throw at a guitar ... it wouldn't be this one. 😉

Edit: change $300,000 to $30,000 ... which, I still would not pay for this axe. 😉

That site says there are no photos of him with that guitar, but maybe I missed some details hidden in another entry.

My bad/thanks for the correction:

The pic of him with an ugly hollowbody
is with a Gibson, not a fender.
