Dtb show of the month.

Tried this in the Derek forum but no bite, and please no TTB bashing. This is meant to revisit some old shows, not diminish what is being done in the here and now.
I’m curious to see if this will catch on and curious how many people are still listening the DTB’s Golden years.
Every month post your favorite DTb show from that month. Give a little review/what makes this show special to your ears.

At the old Carolina Theatre in Greensboro from that wonderful period where the band with Mike was really getting tight on the stuff from Joyful Noise and Soul Serenade but also road testing most of Songlines. They had been playing Crow Jane, Chevrolet and Volunteered Slavery for quite some time already but Down Don’t Bother Me and This Sky were just beginning to take shape as I recall.
Everything is Everything showcases this band so well in the head bobbing funk category as well as Freddie’s Dead which features Derek about as funky as he gets, one of my favorite DT solos there. This Sky made me feel like I was floating up out of the orchestra pit into the vaulted ceilings of the old vaudeville style theatre. Wonderful show.

Very cool idea - hope it catches on. I listen to this one now and then - Derek just about to join the ABB, Jack Pearson had just left, and Jack guests on a number of tracks including on a really great version of Kickin' Bach complete with some zambi style spaciness. Later we Jack with Jeff Mosier on Fixin' to Die, one of my favorite tunes - Afro Blue, and Allen Woody on for the encore.

cool idea indeed -- just listened to cassette of 3/18/96 radio show on WERS 88.9 FM -- show was called Bluesology Boston w/Prof. Jack Devaney -- Yonrico, Todd, Bill McKay keyboards, & Derek -- Real nice bluesion stuff

Great idea- thank you! I've listened to all these shows you guys posted and they're all frickin' awesome! I especially liked that Shepherd's Bush show from London, as it has much of Already Free on it. I have the guitar tab book that goes with the original album so it's great practice to just plug in, tune to open E and jam along. I really like jamming to these live versions. My goal is to learn all the classic DTB songs- it's fun.
I'll post a show here pretty soon, I just want to give everyone a chance to listen to these other shows first- you don't want to miss any! 😛

Love this idea ... Please keep it going. I will dig into my stash to which months are included.

I eagerly anticipate the reunion of DTB, after a couple more year's of TTB, a year or so where Derek stays home, perhaps doing a couple productions, then gathers together that lineup I still love with a passion (Smallie, Scott, Mattison & Kofi)!

It’s my understanding that he’s retired, but I’d love to see Count M’butu play his cajon again

I'll play. Here's one of my favorites: https://archive.org/details/DTB2006-10-26.flac16
Went to the show with a friend and his 16 year old guitar playing son. Neither had seen DTB nor even heard them before. The 16 year old was in awe of Derek. His reaction was like seeing the ocean for the first time after being raised in the desert. Had a great view from the Visulite pit and by the second set we were standing front row in front of Derek.
Bonnie Raitt once said "I miss Little Feat more than I miss being 8 years old." Ditto for me with the DTB. I love TTB but look forward to a DTB reunion one day.

+1 on Already Free. Great record.

Scott, I really liked that Charlotte show- especially Afro Blue and Joyful Noise. Here is one of my favorite dTb shows, this one features Carlos Santana (another favorite of mine): San Francisco 4/15/09:

You really think The dTb will get back together? Just my opinion but I don't ever see that happening.

I enjoyed listening to that Visulite show, I always loved a good 7/4 jam. Coincidentally my contribution for the May show of the month is also from the Visulite. I couldn’t choose a favorite so here’s both shows. Special guest Branford Marsalis at the first show for Afro Blue, Soul Serenade and Joyful Noise encore. The second night had a really good Rastaman Chant with a Sierra Leone jam. The Goin down Slow>For My Brother was well worth the price of admission as well. The band was on fire for these shows.

Love this thread. Thanks for the suggestions. Here is my suggestion to funk up your first barbecue with some Stew.

I don't have any shows to add but wanted to thank you guys for the links. These shows are amazing. I own their commercial releases but never got to see them live. I've seen TTB several times and enjoy their music and appreciate their talents but I just prefer his work with DTB and the Allmans. Thanks again.

This topic has been discussed at length here over the last few years and I tend to agree with you guys. I saw The TTB a few months ago at The Chicago Theatre and while it was a very good show, I very much enjoyed their two bands on their own. I liked the occasional sit in with them but I think they shined on their own.
But to the topic at hand, here is own of my favorites. I think it was the last time I saw them. Gregg sat in for two songs and they dedicated a song to Little Milton.

That's a great one!!

First show was at Head's bar in Mobile in 1998. Never found a recording and not even sure of the exact date but this is who I think of when DTB is mentioned. First record still my favorite by far.
