I really dig The Doors. Personally, I prefer the studio over live with them. Pre 69 they did some tight live stuff. Have all the vinyl albums but not LA Woman. Keep meaning to get it, but I just can't get off on that album. Jim's voice was ragged and lost the range. Alcohol. The clip from the show is that voice, struggling. 1970 was not prime Doors. Rather see the Joni stuff from this festival. Your mileage may vary.

I’m excited for this - I liked the YouTube Break on Through linked above and will be good to see how they improved the picture and sound quality.

My alltime favorite band (though I was a bit too young for them to reach me as much emotionally as did the ABB) Both sounds were hypnotic.

Never saw them live; but used to see Ray & Robbie a lot. I don't think any R & R death hit me as hard as Ray's. Seemed like a truly decent human (and he was the only person in the world who ever had a shot at keeping the Lizard King momentarily in line.

Robbie tours now with his sound singing. Great sound but the kid is a piece of s**T spoiled f**ng brat.

The MYE with Robbie Krieger a few years back was one of the all time best and while I never saw the Doors live, with Warren able to do just about anything, and Danny on the keys along with Robbie still playing great I felt pretty strongly that is was about as close to a true Doors sound as I will ever hear. I loved it! I also personally think the LA Woman sound and bluesiness was fantastic and will Absolutely (Live) buy this DVD/CD set.

Ray, btw, is one of the unsung heroes of rock. He was the bass player (that second small keyboard he had mounted on top) and keyboard player at the same time

And while I too love LA Woman Jim was such a mess that he couldn't finish a song in a take. Unfortunately the live career of the Doors with Jim not a disaster was alas too brief

And that's most likely why producer Paul Rothchild quit during the making of L.A. Woman. I saw a short Doors documentary recently where Rothchild was very tactful in his criticism: "I didn't like the way the sessions were going." I think you can probably read between the lines.

Which all makes me wonder what kind of shape Jim was in for the Isle Of Wight show in 1970, same year L.A. Woman was made. Anyone seen any clips? Just wondering whether this DVD is actually worth buying. I guess if you're a big Doors fan it would be worth seeing from a historical standpoint even if Jim is messed up. But I'd much prefer to get a quality performance.

Here's a great Ship Of Fools from Isle of Wight. The band as expected is just incredibly tight and RIGHT on it. I really can't complain about Morrison, either...........IMO, he's hitting ALL the notes. But man, visually, he looks disoriented and like he's just barely keeping it together. Which I guess would be fairly accurate regarding that stage of his life. FYI the audio and video do not always synch together on this but the audio is quite good.

Yep. We saw him and his band perform at a local blues festival this year. His son sings. A few too many f-bombs by junior but it was a fun, Rockin' time and like you said, Robbie brings it.

The day we saw them was when Gregg passed away. Before they started their set, they played a cool One Way Out to honor Gregg. Cheers!

The Doors Isle Of Wight has been in the trading pool for years now. I haven't listened to it in quite a while. Pretty excellent sound if I remember. and a pretty good show - not one of their best from '70 however. I have a few Doors shows from '70 and think they are pretty dern good. Some of them have already been released commercially. Yes - I must say I'm a Doors fan. They were a hell of a band. Can't believe they've been around 50 years now!! I probably won't buy the new release though.

First time I have ever heard this entire show. This is some excellent Doors. They all seem really focused and Jim sings with authority throughout despite the disoriented appearance. Guess shamans can sometimes be that way.

The "cheesy" sound Ray got from his organ was from his Farfisa. He used this organ during the early Doors. I think he then went to a B3. I'd say that part of the classic Doors sound came from that Farfisa. The first band I was in back in '67-'68 had a Farfisa played through a 2-12" Silvertone Amp.
