Their previous tour was those two albums in their entirety, I didn't read that was the plan for the 50th. Plus McDonald wasn't in the band for those albums so I assume this is just a straight we're playing all of the hits since we have all of the singers here tour.

I do think they are biting off more than they can chew with the size of the venues they are playing. It is a huge jump from the Ryman to Bridgestone Arena. 2,300 seats to fill vs 16,000 seats.

Definitely not a McDonald fan. Their sound before he joined is my preference.

I also was a Doobie Brothsrs fan in early 70's. Bought first three albums. Attended shows from their farewell tour which obviously wasn't their final tour after all.

Jeff Snunk Baxter became the lead guitar player and Michael McDonald took over on keys and apparently took over the band and their sound changed but it worked as commercially they became bigger for a time.

Glad they gave Marc Q. a job. After the ABB called it quits, Gregg had a gig for Marc but we lost Gregg.

With Johnston in the band it will not be a Doobies show like the late 70s / early 80s. They will be doing all the Johnston hits: Long Train Runnin, China Grove, Take Me In Your Arms, Rockin Down the Highway, Without You, Listen To the Music + Blackwater, Jesus is Just Alrght & Southcity Midnight Lady. They still do Takin it To the Streets and I'm sure you can add What a Fool Believes, One Step Closer, Minute by Minute, Real Love and maybe another that McDonald will sing. Bet the setlist looks most of all of those.

plus in addition to Bill Payne and Marc Q, John Cowan is on bass. Drummer has been on board for 10-12 years.
Loaded lineup.

Sign me up.

I think they are just a GREAT rock and roll band and to these ears that is true with or without McDonald on board. I've seen them around 10 times and I never get tired of their live act, they BRING it every night.

I have a couple of things that I question. Why is McDonald pictured on the band's website but he isn't listed as a member? Also, a few comments have mentioned Marc Q. Was he just on a tour or two? He isn't listed either.

Regarding the size of the venues, I couldn't agree more. I have been to five of the sheds and I don't see them filling them. I think I saw them four or five times in Detroit as an opener and it wasn't close to being full.

As for McDonald, I agree with the comments about him. You'd have to drag me to one of his shows. He's certainly talented but I just can't stand his voice. Although as was mentioned, they probably did have their biggest commercial success with him.

McDonald is likely a special guest type thing, not an actual band member.

As far as Marc goes, you can be a touring member of a band but not an official member. Kind of like Chuck Leavell & Darryl Jones with the Rolling Stones.

https://www.doobiebrotherstour.com/

Please nobody use this link from the original post on this page.

It isn't an official link to anything Doobie Brothers, it is a site a ticket broker set up to scalp the tickets at higher prices for shows that won't sell out thus not needing to use a broker to get higher priced tickets. This site is set up to look official, but isn't.

The page even says...

"Your independent guide to the best concerts in 2020! This website is operated by a ticket broker.
Ticket prices are set by third-party sellers and may be above or below face value.
We are not affiliated with nor endorsed by Doobie Brothers."

This is the official site that has the link to the tickets through the correct ticket sellers.

It is billed as The Doobie Brothers & Michael McDonald.

They will need a smoking opener to sell the sheds.

Here is some video I shot at Sonoma Music Festival in 2015 and McDonald is with the Doobies on both. Gregg Allman was also on the bill and if you notice Scott Sharrard is sitting in with the Doobies in the second video. And if you didn't think the Doobies could jam...........you may want to sit through all 8:37 of the second one.

Like many others already mentioned, I too really like the Doobies without Michael McDonald, in fact I really don't much care for the MM Doobies. That said, I believe MM has a huge fan base an his addition will help fill a lot of those seats they wouldn't without him.

I understand that to be the case. My question is why is he on the Doobies main page and named, which to me looks like he is being stated as a member.

See the link you posted.

I don't care but I think the presentation can be confusing. At least it was to me. Smile

And I understand that Marc is not a member. But I think a couple posts naming him on the tour are confused to that point. He isn't listed anywhere that I saw unless I missed something.

Agreed - If they couldn't fill a big market shed like Tinley ( Chicago ) with Santana, they're not going to come any closer with just MM.
