I would think maybe Gregg and Warren did some kind of demos together but it never went through, It just makes me wonder what songs they may have in the vault somewhere that probably us fans will never get to hear. At least songs like Egypt, spots of time, dusk till dawn and Bag End did get played in the live shows.

Wow I try to read everything ABB that comes up on my daily searches and Warren and Gregg expressed a hope they MAY get the time and interest from everybody in the band but NEVER found one word they had ideas and plans for another album. Gregg and Warren and Derek always said Gregg, Warren and Derek are so focused on other projects it's difficult to get everybody on the same page. That other than the Beacon and some summer shed shows they are all going in other directions. But Butch began pushing to get back to doing more live shows but he didn't see the point of going back into the studio.

And one writer asked Gregg about that after Butch repeated it a few times and Gregg said he wanted to do another Brothers album probably next year and if Butch Trucks didn't want to then we will make one without him. After that Gregg never mentioned it again that I saw and Warren and Derek started saying it's not something the band can get on the same page about. After 2014 Warren once offered some regrets they didn't make one more record.

I'm hoping they will release something from the Jack Pearson period and with Derek in 1999. Dickey was playing real good on many of those shows. We just got a big live release from Warren and Derek lineup but Jack's two years has no coverage so far on a archive live release.

I saw the Jack lineup at the Moran Theatre in JVille in 1998. I scored 3rd row center seats at 3 p.m. day of show.

I suspect there is either very little material available for release, or a whole lot.

I've chatted with Jack Pearson on this subject a couple of times. He said that his only regret about his period with the ABB was that they DID NOT do any studio recording. My own guess is that the band had either too many "chefs", or just enough members who were apathetic about recording. I still wish they'd hired a professional video/film crew for that last show!

I think Butch was the most adamant about not recording after Hittin the Note. Considering Derek had a home studio and they had some material to work with (and more that could have been developed I'm sure), it didn't seem like it would have been that huge of a distraction from their other careers to do one more record.

I think they had another record as good or better than HTN in them. It was a big missed opportunity. Could have invited Jack & Chuck in to play on a couple tunes, too.

The one unreleased song I know of over their final 25 years is the original studio version of Rockin Horse with Gregg on lead vocal recorded in 1993/1994 but not used for Where It all Begins. I'm not positive if Dickey is on it or not (Dickey was overdubbed on to Soulshine after the fact....which is the song that took the place of Rockin Horse). I'd like to hear that take.

Tim, on what basis do you think they had a better album than HTN in them? No original material and the stuff introduced pales in comparison IMHO. Warren was the only one really writing and he wasn't exactly incentivized to turn his best material over to the ABB.

I never really understand the desire for more ABB studio material. I get that fans always like new music, but HTN was cobbled together with a lot of stuff that had been on the shelf, what songs would have populated another album? It's a miracle we got those last 14 years of shows from this band, many of which are available for purchase. And isn't an Allman Brothers studio album just a demo for a live work out? Those live versions of "Egypt" and "BAG End" are likely more interesting than anything whittled down in the studio.

It's not like there was no new music from these guys - plenty of Mule, DTB, TTB, Gregg, Jaimoe music was produced over these years, where these guys' focus was at. You can't ask musicians to manufacture an album that their heart isn't in.

Cobbled together doesn't bother me much. The Jayhawks just released a CD cobbled together from stuff co-written by Gary Louris with other artists and most of it previously released by those artists (8 of 11 tracks) and it's tremendous; none of the songs were real hits so I was familiar with only 1 of those 8. They are a better band and more enjoyable because of it and they've added to their long line of great songs.

I saw the Jack Pearson version of the ABB at the Gorge, in George, WA around 1997.

It was earths hattering loud and totally ruined the music for me. My wife and half the other people that went with me left due to how brutally loud the music was.

I still regret going which is too bad because I love Jack's playing.

Yeah, I just can't get excited about a studio cut of "Who's Been Talkin" when so many of us fans already had it (and a number of new covers and instrumentals) on a live album. "Heart of Stone" was fine, but total filler. If they didn't have fresh material that needed to be molded in the studio, then what's the point?

Hotlantian. Mean Woman Blues was the song Rockin' Horse was bumped off Where it All Begins for. Butch Truck's in one of his posts here on this site just after Dickey's fax was sounding off about Dickey and he mentioned several things that related to his long time resentment of Dickey. Calling Dickey a bully, alcoholic, drug addict, hijacked control of the band during Brothers and Sisters an album Butch said shows they had become the Dickey Betts Band by then. And if they had it to do over, they should have voted Dickey out of the band in 1973 and Butch revealed he can't stand the country direction the band took after Dickey took over and though Brothers and Sisters was their biggest selling album, it's so muddy he can barely listen when he hears it on the radio.

I was surprised Butch had felt that way about Dickey that long ago. Back in 1973 Butch's negative complaints in interviews was always toward Gregg Allman. Butch once said "You can't depend on Gregg Allman for anything."

Butch went on to reveal when they were recording Where It All Begins, Dickey walked in while Rocking Horse was being worked on and said we are not doing that song, we are doing Mean Woman Blues. Dickey let Warren sing it but wanted the writing credit. Butch said Dickey was the first one in the band to realise the money to be made on writing credits and would hog the albums so he could make that money. I got the impression Warren was going to sing Rockin' Horse but maybe it was Gregg.

I imagine a lot of that was just Butch blowing off steam. Negative stuff had been building between the two in the 1990s and the top blew in 2000.Back then Butch is likey just blowing off steam from finally blowing his lid over Dickey that I think started when Decade of Hits sold 2 million copies and Butch complained on this site Dickey made millions and Butch got nothing. Butch felt he should have gotten a credit on a few of the old songs. If they had only put Hot 'Lana on that greatest hits album. Butch does have a writing credit on it. Butch was going to quit in 2000 until he found out Gregg was quoting too. I know he and Dickey were close in the old days and signed on when Dickey ask him to be in BHLT and Dickey brought in Butch to help on Pattern Disruptive. And Dickey use to brag about the powerful drumming Butch brought to the band and gave Butch the name freight train.
