Dickey cancels w/no notice?...

just saw the following on Twitter and wondered if any has more info?:
Florida Jam organizers announce that @govtmuleband will replace Dickey Betts Band as headliners after Betts canceled "without any explanation" :: bit.ly/2vYdEcZ pic.twitter.com/YamjUXCYBk
???

He canceled a show I was supposed to go see.
Next time anyone sees Dickey, tell him he owes me 25 bucks. Thanks!

Hope I'm wrong but Dickey may be done playing. I know it's frustrating for him to be out of action and he gets bored but if he is unable to add to the improvement he showed at the Peach, he is going to hurt the wonderful legacy he has. Johnny Winter and BB almost did before they passed.

He canned this show and added another date in the same time frame.
We are supposed to see him in August at the NY state fair.
Hopefully he'll show up.

Not sure why he cancelled. The Mule is a great replacement and I'm looking forward to the show. He added 11/3 in the same area with billy Gibbons and we plan to go to that show. Can't wait and hoping he does the show!

It is early August. Show is in late October. That's 2 month's notice.

"2 month's notice" not the issue at all. Cancellation just some cause for concern, wouldn't YOU say?

I was simply pointing out that "no notice" in the title of the thread, which one might assume is the issue, is incorrect.

Ookkk....then what IS the issue here? (pardon my density)..

Mule makes an excellent replacement for DB.
I feel for the venue dealing with the hassle and expense of
booking and promoting someone who doesn't follow through.

Given that Dickey cancelled and then announces a show two weeks later right up the road, this seems like an open and shut lawsuit against Dickey. But I am guessing that there was no written contract for the make-up date. The bottom line is it is the promoter’s responsibility to get the terms in writing. If it was not in writing, then Dickey has every legal right to cancel. Not necessarily cool but legal.

I think he’s asking you that question. I think the issue is his lack of commitment.

It makes me wonder what’s going on, and I don’t think it’s cool to commit to something if you are unsure or not prepared. I don’t think its a health issue or anything to be concerned about, just my 2 cents.

I mentioned this in the other thread regarding this but I'll echo it here: rumor was there was a miscommunication of a scheduling conflict within Dickey's band with the new FL Jam date. Doesn't mean that's exactly true, but Dickey scheduled another show in the same area (Pompano) just a couple weeks later in early November. Bummer for anyone who made specific travel plans since the promoter isn't refunding any tickets based on the headliner change, but those in the area will still get another chance to catch Dickey (and Billy Gibbons). Plus you get Mule, Elvin Bishop, and Devon Allman is playing the Funky Biscuit on Oct 17. Still a nice couple weeks of shows.

I agree. When I read the title, I thought Dickey had not showed up for a show on the night of it. I pictured a room full of people waiting for a band that didn't show. Or showing up at the venue to discover that there was no show. A couple of months Notice pretty much renders the title incorrect. Dickey Cancels With No Explanation? Ok but No Notice? Doesn't make sense.
Bummer for some but replacing Dickey with the Mule is a pretty good problem to have. Ticket buyers could do far worse than that.

As Porkchopbob has alluded to it is a business decision plain and simple. If Dickey plays a festival show two weeks prior to his headline shows in the same region there will be no demand for people to attend his headlining shows. I'm sure Dickey and his manager make more money playing a headlining show. It is a crappy situation for the festival promoter and he has a right to be angry, that said he totally landed on his feet getting the Mule to headline. Duane Betts had said earlier this year that Dickey and the band had more dates later this year scheduled but they were holding off on releasing the dates till they saw how the first run of shows went. So with that in mind maybe the November Florida shows were already on the books? If that was the case then Dickey shouldn't have agreed to the new Florida Jam date. Then again maybe his manager didn't want the bad press of "cancelling" on the Florida Jam at the outset of his new tour. That or maybe they decided to add the November Florida dates later and screw the Florida Jam promoter because they got a better deal. Who knows. It's too bad the weather cancelled the original date in May.
