Saw Albert King perform in 1988. Wasn't sure about going but ultimately decided that if I had the good fortune to see him perform, then I should go. Never ever regretted going.

Saw B. B. King perform in 2004 and 2012. Wasn't sure about going to the 2012 show but, again, decided that I should go. Never regretted going to either show.

This could be the making of a 2018 New Year's resolution for me.

I love this site!

At least someone in this thread has his feet on the ground and reasonable expectations.

Hey be nice, all opinions are welcome if stated respectfully. Everyone here is well grounded I'm sure.

I think it's quite reasonable, in exchange for price of admission, to expect any artist to show up and give a good effort. I don't think anyone here has started any higher expectation than that.

Dickey has disappointed many of his FANS over the years, we all know that. Don't make it out to be the fan's fault. Everyone here seems willing to give him another chance.

All opinions are welcome and appreciated. I do not think any of the opinions expressed here were disrespectful. MY opinion is just that many are not realistic. I do not believe Dickey will be playing the Beacon Theater or touring with Jack, Chuck, Warren or Derek.

I also do not feel any disrespect for Dickey. No matter who is in his band and no matter what venue, if there is a show nearby, I will go. I don't care if he does an entire acoustic show or an acoustic set. I will be there. That is the sentiment that Mitch expressed and I was echoing.

You know what I mean Alan...I don't think Dickey will get any "celebs" in the band, and I do think Duane Betts and Andy Aledort are terrific axemen, worthy of playing alongside Dickey.

And I know Dickey has put on some sub par shows in the past. But he has also put on shows that were great...in the true spirit of The Brotherhood. I will gladly take my chances with regard to what the next show will be like. I won't hear great music if I don't go.

Look forward to seeing as many ABB and DB fans as I can at the show.

Mitch

I agree with you ABSNJ. I would love for Dickey to tour/play with Jack Pearson, Chuck, Oteil, Warren, and even Derek but realistically I don't see it happening.

Smile I agree with Mitch and Bird72... great expectations can always lead to disappointment. I try not to put that on myself or other people ....people are always expecting more than you can deliver at times.
He’s Dickey Betts a founding member of The Allman Brothers Band ..an original member of the best band EVER... and 73 going strong and wants to go out there. I would imagine thats scary when your young , Its a lot to do at his age.
Personally like Mitch stated I think Duane and Andy fit nicely as does Pedro ,Mike , Frankie not sure who other drummer would be ??
DBGS played the Beacon I think it was 07” ( anyone ) Im to lazy to look it up... It was a great show and it looked pretty much sold out ... I was in the 6th row .. I’d go again and again...
Im hoping as all his fans are that there will be more shows closer to their homes.. so we wait , impatiently , I might add to see the dates.
Thank God for DB...

Side note..my heart is broken that Gregg Allman has passed but he fought the fight bravely and with dignity. Im heart broken over Butch .... not sure why he would do it and it makes me so sad that anyone has that much pain and darkness. His powerful percussion and passion for keepin it all in the beat is hard to replace... so Missed is what I feel.

MItch I will forward to seeing you and all ABB / DBGS fans ...Blue Sky days ahead

Dickey never plays Chicago. Seen him in the south, NYC, Detroit but he doesn't come here for some reason.

And useless trivia that was told to me. The first live BHLT show was here in Chicago in a club on Clark street not far from me. The place is a liquor store now.

I have a copy of the show. Not sure if this is true or not but again, that was what I was told.

Well since this apparently some lame team sport type thing, I'll stand with the folks who would naturally expect a good show from a world-class musician.

I don't think Dickey's most hardcore fans are doing him any favors with this "NO expectations" jive. Have some faith please!!! He's not that bad y'all!

i like the word jive.

Gosh I'd hate to be on a lame team:) maybe I am! just people spouting off on the internet.

I reacted on Christmas which I should not have. I think I need to stay off these Dickey threads. The same people (even under different handles) say the same stuff over ad nauseum, , me included. I think if you are doubting or let down by Dickey, then it shouldn't be a big deal, just don't go. I don't get anything more than that simplistic. Or some (like me included) just like to post and be grand on the net.

If you want honesty here:
I am sorry I reacted to two posts. I don't care what anyone thinks of Dickey. What really tripped me was how sad it appeared that the only thing someone can think to say on Christmas is negative. I felt bad for that kind of reality of down-ness. and I wrongly got annoyed someone would actually share it on Christmas.

Time to slip away from this deal, as best I can. I wish all the best..... try not to get on this Dickey thing. Flame, piss, rant, smile, joy, whatever, it is the grand internet, where little un's can be big un's, me included, so FU on being offended Smile

I think I will use that for the password to the pre-Beacon show meet and greet at the Fairway... brings back the Clapton experience.

I think you mean this one, and I agree it was a great show, with Kenny Wayne Shepherd opening (not so great). Thank to a post by you (or maybe Liz) I got great seats for that night... so thanks again.

Lee, I believe it was 2008 I saw Dickey there on the South Side at the Beverly Arts Center, 400 seater, solid show, not spectacular, but solid. Given the chance, I would see him again............Peace........joe
