I hope that Dickey indeed members of the last GS incarnation, in particular Andy Aledort.

This is just the type of thing that will keep me at home. Too much of an attempt to sound like the old Brothers.....No thanks.

How is that possible? Dickey is gonna go out there and play how he's always played. If he sounds a lot like the "old Brothers", that's because he IS an old brother. Let the brother finally get the recognition he rightfully deserves.

By now it's clear(you've stated it clearly on these recent Dickey related threads)that you will not be buying a ticket if you don't get what you want-an acoustic show or the type of excitement that you'd like to experience.

Nothing wrong with that at all...and glad you're kind enough to leave the tickets for those who really want to be there!

I would love one more opportunity to watch Mr.Betts again, I don't care what he plays. As we all know life is short, soak it in and enjoy it.

I really hope that I get to see Dickey Betts play a guitar in front of me again in 2018. I do not expect it to sound like my vinyl copy of Fillmore East, or the Warren/Derek era or whatever else anybody feels the need to draw comparisons to. I'm realistic

He is an old friend to me and probably not just to me and I sort of feel that given the events of this past year if he wants to play some shows for himself, us, posterity, etc, then I view that as a great gift, being ever mindful of the uncertainties in life. As Jaimoe said, Right On Richard.

Rock on, Mr. Betts. Thanks for the guitar pick ya gave me at the House of Blues in Chicago in 2001.

No idea if I could pull off a Dickey show $ wise. Starting a biz and dough is tight. But if luck is good I would. Gregg is gone. Duane is so gone it is antique. Butch, damn. Tractor man of course, ancient history also. Personally in my life, they have dropped like flies and are annually, and are poised in the wings to keep it going, end stage and sheet. I am youngest in a big clan and playing last man standing. Fighting to keep functional through the ages myself. Dickey could be backed by suited orangutans and they can play Yankee Doodle Phuckkin Dandy and if I could I'd be there.

I'm dreaming, of course. But wouldn't it be cool if Dickey could assemble a band with a fiddle in it, Chuck Leavell on piano, maybe a couple of backup singers, and do the entire Highway Call record? Of course they could break out and do other Dickey material as well. I know we're all getting old, Highway Call came out in 1974, and doubtful that there would be much of a market for this. But it sure would be cool to hear Dickey revisit his country roots, as Highway Call, IMHO, happens to be one of the great country records ever made. Throw in Blue Sky, Ramblin' Man, Sweet Bougainvilla, etc.......

Dream On, dream until your dreams come true...........

I certainly don't think he's doing this for the money so if it's not that, hopefully it will be for fun, personal satisfaction and a chance to play with some old friends and some people he'd always wanted to play with.

Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, Chuck Leavell, Jamoie, Jack Pearson, Duane Betts and the rest of the Devon Allman Project guys would be a great start. Different guest stars at each show. Not sure how big of a project this is going to be though.

Not big on Andy Aledort, too many average musicians in the last GS.

If Dickey gets into my neighborhood I will more than likely go. My objection would be to his using the "old" band on this tour; lots of pretty average players in that group. And most of them were contributors to a lot of the shows being less than stellar.

Too bad we don't have Dangerous Dan with us anymore. What a wonderful human being.

And obviously a great guitar player.

Imagine what's going on up in heaven. I saw Dangerous Dan and BB at the Bottom Line.

Meanwhile, Dickey's still in the wheelhouse here, iconic, inspiring all the other players who grew up on the music. Dickey, Jaimoe, and everybody else they have played with, how many possibilities are there?

Here's something you might enjoy.

oh heaven's, PERISH THE THOUGHT that any of the aforementioned professional musicians would play music for money

I agree with most on not wanting to see the last version of GS trotted out for 10 dates...

I think that it is a different time / different place at this point. I probably attended at least 40 shows after Dickey's ouster from the ABB and for the most part I would say all of the shows were good. Towards the end though the pace was much slower and the vibe was just not as good.

I hope he can shake up the line-up a bit... get a fire lit & burning hot!

I too would love these fantasy island lineups. My guess is for the most part that a 74 year old guy is falling back into comfort zone - maybe some sit ins

Unlike the chocolates in forest gump you always know what you are going to get

I was not going to say anything about the "old" Great Southern... but I total agree with the sentiments shared on this thread. I saw that band 12 times. He needs a marque band. There are plenty of really talented, notable players out there that Dickey should recruit. Jack Pearson comes to mind, as previously mentioned. Chuck Leavell, of course(probably a long shot). Duane Trucks and Marc Quinones on drums? I would keep Duane Betts in the band. He has really come into his own, and can sing like his daddy.

He's not going to fill the Beacon, or any larger venues with his old band. People here want to see him, no doubt. He said it himself, he thought he would attract lager numbers and be able to play larger places. He was not able to do that. A better band, and playing Gregg's songs will help him move beyond playing bars...imo

IMO Dickey plays much better when he is challenged musically and/or when the lights are shining brighter... Based on the recent clips of Duane Betts he is really playing lights out... I think having someone like Jack or maybe even someone like Leroy Parnell on Slide could light a fire as well.

Is this line-up a possibility for a run of dates in March/April?

Dickey - guitar, voc
Jack - guitar, voc
Chuck - keys
Oteil - bass, voc
Jaimoe - drums
Marc - drums

Only one way to start the DB 2018 tour. At the Beacon on 12/31/17 with the Mule. Hope DB's management sees this. BTW, first post, but first show was 12/70. Been reading you guys since day one. Much joy, especially in '09 and '14.

Oh HELL NO!!!!!

If this get going, the absolute best place to start, and end the tour is Macon, Ga.

The best I ever saw Dickey play in the last 15-20 years was with Phil Lesh & Friends in 2006. He & Duane came out for an hour of their show (entire 3rd set). It was Phil Lesh (bass, vocals), John Scofield (guitar), Larry Campbell (guitar), Rob Barraco (keys), John Molo (drums). It was like getting transported back to 1992.

Something to be said about the caliber of players on stage with him.

Based on the last time I saw him play, which was about five years ago in Fort Lauderdale, I would have to say that I certainly hope he gets himself together before he starts touring again. Dickie was so bad off that he lost himself in the middle of in memory of Elizabeth Reed where he didn’t even know where he was. He started rambling some intelligible words Between the sets, his son had to help him off the stage. I felt embarrassed for him and drove 60 miles to see this show. I felt let down. Please get better brother!

yes and we drove hundreds of miles to see him in Florida at Sunshine Fest but when we finally got there we were told at the gate he had just cancelled out and wouldn't be showing. We actually couldn't believe it, and had ignored the naysayers telling us we'd only be disappointed by him. He was the main performer we went for.

It'd be nice if he made up that date at Sunshine for the paying fans when he does finally perform again...since its very near his home too and there were a lot of very disappointed people there.

I do believe Dickey will come to NYC, and I am lucky that for me, it will be an easy place to go to.

I will be there no matter who is in his band...I do not have any expectations, and I would be just as happy if he reunites the last version of DB+GS or has an all star band.

That said, Bird72 (Tony), I wish you could come to NY so we could attend the show together.

I saw Dickey immediately in 2001 during one of his first tours, it was a pretty great show to an embarrassingly small crow. I started to hear all of the bad feedback from Dickey's shows in the years after that and the live discs didn't sound too hot (Twinkle? Ugh), so I stayed away. But feeling nostalgic I saw one of Dickey's last shows from his 2014 tour, only a month and around the corner from the Allmans' last shows, and it was pretty stellar. I really thought that would be the end, but I'll go out and see him one more time since he will likely be near by.

At least someone in this thread has his feet on the ground and reasonable expectations. Just be thankful we MIGHT get to see Dickey play again. There are a lot of obstacles to overcome before Dickey hits the road. NYC would seem to be a no-brainer, and it's been a long time since I have seen you Mitch, so I am on board.

Gee,and here I was thinking we were being good troopers driving 100's of miles, not asking for refunds or complaining about his no-show but just hoping he'd maybe play Sunshine again since he may tour again someday. And that other guy bought tickets & drove 60 miles but was clearly a bit disappointed by the end of the show,he even wished Dickey well, Neither comment seemed particularly harsh to me.
