"I have no problem with Gregg, never have,” Betts said in a statement. “Sure, it would be fun to play with him again. We’ll see where it goes."

Gregg Allman: “… Like they say, time heals. I haven’t seen him in a very long time and would be very open to it. In fact, I would love to play with him again … just to jam! I love my band and I’m pretty set for guitar players, but I’d love to see Betts. We had our ups and down and all our demons. We had our problems, our ins and outs and our public embarrassments on both sides. But that’s all way behind us now. There’s nothing at all wrong with forgive and forget."

Dickey Betts: "I have no problem with Gregg, never have. Sure, it would be fun to play with him again. We’ll see where it goes."

Folks, the earth has shifted on its axis or, at the least, the Berlin Wall is starting to crumble. After 15 years of no hope, suddenly we have a lot of it. I don’t think anybody expects these two guys to resurrect the ABB, but just the thought that they both are willing to bury the hatchet (and not in each other) and would enjoy playing together again is incredibly exciting, especially after having to swallow the breakup last year, which broke all of our hearts.

What I’d love to see – and I know it’ll probably never happen – is for them to revisit the tours they did in the 1980s, before they reformed with Warren, Woody and Johnny. Dickey’s band and Gregg’s band (which included Dangerous Dan Toler) toured together. Dickey’s band would open and play for an hour, then Gregg’s band would play for an hour, then the two would come out for an hour and play ABB tunes.

Regardless, we finally have détente. Now let’s hope somebody grabs the bull by the horns and finishes the peace process. None of us are getting any younger -- make it happen!

I love Dickey, he's a true legend..... I hope he's still in good enough shape that he could do some shows.

I've stated often that I think a small format - Gregg and Dickey acoustic duet (add Chuck if he's available) - small theaters and venues - lots of storytelling between tunes. Low impact-low stress. 2-3 shows per week with time off in between. 5 - 9 week tour. I'd show up for as many shows as my budget would allow.

Full Allman Brothers Band reunion? I guess anything's possible, but that might create more stress (and drama?) than these guys could stand at this point.

Let's just see where this goes. Grin

I have to believe the truckloads of cash the GD got for GD50 helped.

My choice for and "ABB50" band would be "core four" plus Mac (who is really a core 5 member I guess) Chuck, Warren and Otiel.

BTW Dickey can barely reunite with his own band right now, what makes you people think he'd leave the house for Gregg?

When exactly did Dickey "retire"? I know a few years ago he retired, got bored, and went back out on the road until this past winter when his brother passed away and he canceled his summer 2015 dates. Now Oteil says he is retired? I know Pedro and co. have to eat and keep playing elsewhere in the meant time (and Mike Kach is having a fund-raiser for his health) but I've never heard of a retired musician.

Perry Boynton ... Why do you have to rain on our parade? You probably like telling little kids that there is no Santa Claus. Sure, maybe it's just talk right now and maybe it will never be anything more than that, but at least it's something positive after so many years of negativity. So, you can dismiss it (and us) if you want, but as Andy Dufresne said, "Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things.'' Or something like that...

Anyhow, I'm going to hold onto that and hope that somebody makes this happen in some form or another. Or, as another noted philosopher, Scarlett O'Hara, once said, "Tomorrow is another day...''

Pax...

Hey, I can understand not wanting to get too excited at the idea of Mom and Dad getting back together until it happens.

This really is the best news I have heard in a LONG time. I love both of these guys, and a Great Southern/Gregg Allman Band package tour with the big jam at the end would be so very AMAZING. This is good karma in action, folks! Maybe they will both show up at Volunteer Jam next Wednesday! (What a great dream!)

I gotta agree with Rusty... Gregg makes a lot of comments in interviews that never amount to anything. It's good PR for him. You can read Dickey's response as a positive "sure I would like that", or "sure it would be fun, but I am not holding my breath".

I believe the second response.

i truly hope they get together in some form.

An acoustic set would be great although the fans will talk over it.

i loved the format of the 80's shows-Dickey & Great Southern,Gregg,& then the 2 bands.

may or may not happen,or might be a one or 2 song "reunion" but it's nice to have hopes!

I won't question Dickey's abilities presently, or think they are being publicly social for show (when did they start that stuff, haha) or think being positive is immaturely overzealous, or think it is wrong to go "heck yes" until it is seen with eyeballs, or sit here and throw peanuts at what y'all think. I just say: EFF YEAH, bring it on........ Smile

Well maybe I'm a parade rainer, but to me this is a big over reaction to Gregg saying anything other than an insult about Dickey. He wants to "jam" with him but he says he loves his band but he's "pretty set for guitar players", as though Dickey would just be one of his employees or something. We've all seen Gregg put his foot in his mouth more than a few times when he gets caught off guard in an interview. As for Dickey, he's said all that stuff before, too. And have any of the issues which started this mess ever been addressed?

This might be a long way from being any kind of a reconciliation. God bless Dickey Betts if he can just overlook all the things Gregg has said in the last 15 years. I'm sure he could forgive but why would he go back for more abuse and disrespect? MONEY????....oh yeah!

My interpretation from that interview was Gregg kinda being like 'one step at a time'. I recall there being some pauses either written or implied in that interview so I'd be interested in hearing Alan Paul's take as to Gregg perhaps being asked directly about something or being more pre-emptive with those comments.

With the dead50 hullabaloo, the airplane doing their 50 celebration at lockn, which remaing dead members playing msg on halloween, minus phil, they cant help but to have noticed a case of easy money smiling at them. Plus they get to play together again. What's not to like?!!!

There will be those calling it a cash grab. Yup everyone is entitled to a hard earned income. You know those tickets will sell despite the price. Many will want their piece of nostalgia before we all die.

Wannee is the rumour!

I don't really care if they play together again. I would happy just to see a picture of them sitting across a table from one another, shooting the breeze, with some smiles on their faces.

Gregg is particularly realistic, for once. This is more shocking than anything.

Nobody knows if DB has it together, a long distance shout-out gives DB some time to pull it together if he can. No reason for Gregg, who is playing the same stuff he'd play anyway, to go back to doing Ramblin' Man - he doesn't have to.

DB did not do well without the Brothers - they did just fine without him.

In the end, life is short, be nice if DB got to go out in a blaze of glory, not a blaze of tantrums at roadies and turning up his amps despite Jack Pearson's already failing hearing.

Getting together for a nostalgic rehash of their greatest hits would do little to enhance their legacy. Both Dickey and Gregg have demonstrated a penchant for playing the same tunes over and over.

I'd LOVE to see them play together but you're right on with just seeing them be the brothers again like they should be!
