I like this. This is last lineup material. They needed to stay away from some of the originial lineup songs because they couldn't really pull it off. It didn't sound like the Allman Brothers. Butch was right on some of that Dickey stuff.

I hate to not pick but this is an Allmans discussion site, there are much better performances of Desdemona including with Chuck that I wish they would have released. It’s probably because these are Beacon shows the live tracks from this lineup were recorded and perhaps others were not? The Desdemona with Chuck from Atlanta 2001 is A LOT better. 3/18/06 from the Beacon would have also been great. I haven’t heard it in a while but I would guess the Desdemona with Chuck from the Fillmore anniversary show at the Beacon would also be better.

Agree with Blacky in that they should have stuck to more material from this band for the live releases. Blue Sky without Dickey is not worth the space. The Little Martha>Blue Sky Solos>Little Martha jam they did would be fine but not straight up Blue Sky. Rather here a live High Cost or one of the other many great things this lineup did

Yes axeman. You nailed it. Derek and Warren playing Little Martha on acoustic guitars does zero justice to the Eat A Peach track. It does nothing for me. Even if you view it as a humble but weak attempt to pay homage to Duane Allman. Blue Sky without Dickey is like Midnight Rider without Gregg. It gives one reason to NOT like the last lineup. Butch had it right. They should NOT have brought back Blue Sky. It just doesn't work especially for someone who has seen countless show like myself beginning with the original lineup.

At least when the last lineup covered All Along the Watchtower they avoided any extended guitar solos. Derek or Warren trying to put you in the zone Jimi Hendrix does on that song would have failed miserably. Wisely they didn't and their cover is good. I use to play it a lot. How they handled that was how Eric Capton paid homage to Gary Moore the year he played Still Got The Blues. Clapton wisely played it on acoustic guitar NOT on electric like Gary did. Clapton is great and I was playing Key to the Highway with him and Duane this morning. But his playing wouldn't work on electric paying tribute to Gary Moore anymore than he could play Eruption while paying a tribute to EVH.
