Derek Trucks 41 today?

I think Derek Trucks is 41 today. Not sure but I think his birthday is around this date and he was born in 1979.
As he was growing up in the 1980's when ABB music wasn't selling much including the big albums from the early 70's, Derek was wearing out Fillmore East and Eat A Peach because his uncle Butch plays on them and Derek became fascinated with Duane Allman on slide guitar. And it shows too. Derek is a fine slide player and overall musician.

Happy Birthday Derek!!

I believe he did a show in Jacksonville opening up for Billy Squire & Foreigner in 91.
I didn't go but I saw him in 93 at a small club.
Derek Hess of the Rossington Collins band was on drums.

Here is another great slide player who just turned 92. Here he is in 1980 in Japan. Watch out for those incredible LOW, LOW, LOW, LOW notes at the end. May blow your speakers.

Yes, Happy Birthday Derek.

Yep little Skydog, Layla jam is my go too video when people are not familiar with Derek.
No surprise Clapton toured with him, 14 and playing at such an accomplished level.

I saw Derek in '91 it was Derek and the Dominators,Tom Doucette showed up along with Toy Caldwell, met his dad Chris too.Happy Birthday dude.

An American TREASURE.
I feel very lucky to be alive when this guy is in his prime, very lucky to be able to see him so often, very grateful that Derek tends to his flame and keeps it burning bright.
He has maintained a level of excellence for a very long time and shows no sign of slowing down.

I have been fortunate to see Derek play about 70 times. He is a generational player and unlike any we've seen in recent times. He is a treat in whatever setting he plays. We are blessed to have him and we should make all attempts to convey our appreciation for his amazing talent

As an after thought, those 70 times do not include the ABB shows I've seen with him as a band member or guest.

I still got a DTB poster from the early days. You've come a long way Derek. Enjoy the spoils of your hard work and your evolution.
Happy belated birthday Derek.

Yeah I was reading an interview with Gregg the other day and they asked him when did he first hear Derek Trucks play. Gregg said they were in Miami recording the Enlighten Rogues album with Tom Dowd and Butch came up and wanted to take him and Haynes to a very small club or beer joint to hear something. Gregg said there was a young boy throwing a baseball with another boy and when the music began it was one of those boys and he played Statesboro Blues and just nailed it and it was so much like Gregg's brother. Gregg said it made Haynes feel a little challenged when he heard the slide.
Someone said "Enlighten Rogues was 1979 Gregg". And he said. Oh man that would make Derek 70 years old. Hmmmm. What was it???? Hmmmm. Oh yeah we were in Miami recording Shades of Two Worlds".
Gregg was wrong again. It was Seven Turnes. Shades was recorded in Memphis.

Well he knew it was Miami and they were recording.
