Derek Devours New Haven

Great TTB show tonight. Many different shades and colors.
An estimate of the setlist:
Made Up Mind
New Song
The Letter
New Song
Keep On Growing
Something
An Alan Toissant Song featuring Betty Harris
DTB song / Mike Mattison
Bound For Glory
Miles jam/ The Storm / Drums
Susan blues
Angel from Montgomery / Sugaree
.Idle Wind
Encore: Lets Go Get Stoned.
I'm sure i missed something. Keep On Growing was epic. Derek built up and then brought it down. It was such a great groove that i was sorry he brought it down. However, he built back up wonderfully. Then he took it back down AGAIN! Then up again. Wild ride.

The Bitches Brew-style jam before The Storm was wild. I was delighted to witness it.
A number of songs had me thinking: these guys have a real old school r'n'b groove. So does Gregg solo. And with the Warren Haynes Band / Man in motion, Warren went that way too....so why didnt the ABB?
Great bassist. Very bottom end, powerful and low, not flashy but with great punch. His spare approach sounded big and left nice space.
Derek had a solo on Keep on Growing that was a perfect fusion of Dickey and Duane spirit.

Wow ! Quite a review. Wish I was there

I've seen TTB 3 times this year (NYC Central Park, Gathering of the Vibes, Beacon) and I can't wait for the next show. Love this band. Really hope they play Wanee, but since they have Magnolia Fest going at the same venue in the Fall and are abroad in March/April, I'm guessing they separated from Wanee.

Gosh what a setlist though -- what a maverick musical spirit -- literally no genre is left untouched -- great review thanks for posting

I'm really excited about the show in Virginia Beach next Friday. They are playing a symphony hall and I can't wait to soak up the sound!!!

don't get me wrong...wish I was there, or in Providence tonight...
but weren't these December shows billed as "evening with TTB"?
seems like it's the same 14-17 song count as the one setters from festival appearances or the past couple summer tours with Sharon Jones & Black Crowes
was anyone expecting 2 sets or a longer show?

^^
if you go to the TTB web site for tonight's show, the opening act is listed. I don't think that TTB has played a 2 set show, including the Beacon (until Port Chester)
anyway, the Port Chester show from 12/03 is up on bt and the archive and it smokes!!!!!!
this band is hot
I wish I could make tonight's show in Providence, but such is life.
btw, I've posted this before, but here is the origin of the Storm intro - Miles Davis Ali from Tribute to Jack Johnson (a must have album)

There were only 2 shows in 2015 billed as An Evening With.
One Beacon and the Port Chester.
I went to the Beacon show and an excellent show it was.
In 2016 there's 5 shows billed Evening With.
In the multi show city's, the last night of each city is billed EW.

I think this is the correct show...

After they devoured New Haven the band pulverized Providence....they really re-invented themselves since i saw i.m.h.o. a lackluster stale show in Boston last summer on the wheels of soul tour. The entire band was hitting the note as they say, Saturday. Best i have ever seen from them. The Providence Performing Arts Center is such a beautiful theater, maybe the most beautiful i have seen. Just fantastic.....would love to get my hands on a copy of that night. I would be able to deliver a set list if the 70's and 80's didn't have such a negative effect on my memory.....well the 90's and 2000's haven't helped either.

For the Chicago shows I got tix for the first night so I can see Leon Russell. I figure that will be better.
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

Was at the Capital show..they were incredible..best I have ever seen them. The horn section is tight as is the rest of the band. Highlights..Derek on Bound For Glory..Susan wailing on The Letter...Midnight in Harlem..fantastic Keep on Growing...saw them at the Beacon last year...difference is amazing..Going to attempt to figure out how to get this show from the archives!!
