Denver and Red Rocks Advice

Going to Red Rocks July 2nd and 3rd to see Umphrey's McGee. Looking for advice about when to get to the venue. Is it cool to have beer in the lot? Is it a long wait to get out after the show? Should we get to the venue early one of the days to hike some of the trails?
Information about Denver that I'd like to know about good breakfast places, breweries, and a good place to grab a drink on a Friday night.

I get out to Colorado alot, actually here now.
I'm not into microbrews but alot of my friends are so I've been to a couple places. This isn't by Red Rocks, they are in Boulder if your travels take you that way - Avery Brewery. https://www.averybrewing.com/ They have some outstanding beer! Boulder is where CU is, maybe an hour north of Denver.
Golden is cool to hang out for a bit and it is the next town up from Red Rocks. That is where the Coors Brewery is. I've been to some bars in Golden, just normal type bars you know. I like that town to kill an hour or two in.
This place is off of I25 near downtown Denver, called the Highland Tavern. http://www.highlandtavern.com/default.aspx Now this is a good place for some outstanding bar food. The pork rinds are just awesome! They are also known for their tater tots. It is in a neighborhood, off the beaten path, but like I said close to I25 and downtown. You will feel like a local hanging out here. If you are staying in Denver then you could stop here on the way to Red Rocks.
I've only been to a show at Red Rocks once. All the parking is free and people seem to park everywhere, along the road, all over the place. We got there maybe an hour before the first act and were able to park in a regular lot, but traffic was slow moving, bumper-to-bumper going in. We left the show a little early and got out real easy, I imagine it would be really congested getting out after a show when everyone is leaving.
Since you are going to Red Rocks for the show and you'll be there for that, if you want to do some hiking I would think maybe you would go somewhere else just to take in a different area if you had time for that before a show. Although I don't have any recommendation on that. I could ask my friend who lives downtown who is into biking and stuff where a good close by hiking spot would be.
Where are you staying?
I just rode the light rail from DIA to downtown Denver for the first time the other day. It is $9 and you get to transfer to any RTD bus or train within 24 hours included in that price.
You are going to love Colorado!

Hopefully you're spending at least a few days. Colorado is a beautiful state. Spend as much time outside (weather permitting) as you can.
I haven't been to Red Rocks in 30+ years but it's about a half hour east of Denver. I remember there was plenty of parking and it was about a 5-10 minute walk.
Have fun and enjoy!

Will you take advantage of the marijuana laws there ?

Was at Red Rocks last year for the TTB, Sharon Jones and Doyle Bramhall II, parked in the upper lot which was very accessible and easy. Hiked about 7 miles with no altitude problem. Getting out will require patience. Enjoy the show!

Stay in the area of the venue. At least that side of Denver. Only advice is the freeways there are gridlock M-F rush times. Denver is not the rural west, it is big city and tons of people. I have been so rural so long I get in and get out and hit some record shops and dining and now would include pot shops, but get me outta there.

Beautiful venue. I have noticed the air really does get to you the higher you go up in the place. It seems less oppressive in the lower part of the stands.
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

Flying in the first and leaving on the fourth.
