DEEP PURPLE Completes New Album, Announces U.K. Tour With BOC and New Live Release

DEEP PURPLE is heading back to the U.K. to tour arenas in 2020 with special guests BLUE ÖYSTER CULT. The tour starts at the Manchester Arena on October 2, 2020, and hits London The O2 on October 3, Glasgow The SSE Hydro on October 5, Leeds First direct Arena on October 6 and ending at Arena Birmingham on October 8. Tickets on sale on Friday, December 6 at 10 a.m. from www.aegpresents.co.uk.
The announcement of the live shows coincides with news on DEEP PURPLE's social media, with Ian Gillan confirming that they have completed the recording of a brand new studio album to be released in 2020, with further details to follow.
Gillan, Roger Glover, Ian Paice, Steve Morse and Don Airey, Mark VIII of the band, continue to travel the scope of hard rock — the textures and nuances of recent works are anything but thudding retreads. If you set a random play setting for the band's entire catalog, the result is one of the finest musical outputs to grace rock music.
Paice said: "As always, playing in your home country is special and exciting and touring with the 'CULT' ensures it's going to be a great run of gigs."
Gillan said: "It is fantastic to be playing some home shows again… The band is cranking and full of it. Plus there will be a couple or three new songs. Dunno how we're going to squeeze it all in, but we always manage somehow. Can't wait to blow your socks off."
BÖC's Eric Bloom said: "I am personally thrilled to be playing with DEEP PURPLE again. As a fan of their music, I'll be sure to stay and watch their show nightly. Such a deep catalog of great classic songs plus great musicianship and singing. Great guys too. Looking forward to it."
BÖC's Buck Dharma said: "BÖC is excited to return to the U.K. and support DEEP PURPLE, a band we've always admired and who has inspired BÖC to rock since the beginning."
For over four decades, BLUE ÖYSTER CULT has been thrilling fans of intelligent hard rock worldwide with powerful albums loaded with classic songs. Indeed, the Long Island, New York based band is revered within the hard rock and heavy metal scene for its pioneering work. BLUE ÖYSTER CULT occupies a unique place in rock history because it's one of very few hard rock/heavy metal bands to earn both genuine mainstream critical acclaim as well as commercial success.
The band is often cited as a major influence by other acts such as METALLICA, and BÖC was listed in VH1's countdown of the greatest hard rock bands of all time.
The intense creative vision of BÖC's original core duo of vocalist/lead guitarist Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser, and vocalist/rhythm guitarist Eric Bloom are complemented by Richie Castellano on guitar and keyboards, and the longtime rhythm section of bass guitarist Danny Miranda, and drummer Jules Radino.
The latter-year DEEP PURPLE has moved progressively into new areas, piquing fans' interest who were not born when the mighty PURPLE machine ruled the music world's money trees. Their holy grail of "In Rock" (1970) "Machine Head" (1972) and "Made In Japan" (1973) catapulted DEEP PURPLE to the top in concert grosses and album sales around the world, with track "Smoke On The Water" ascending to mega-status.
Having amassed so many songs that get coined under the "classic" moniker, setlists have been a never-ending debate among diehards and newer fans especially with the albums "Now What?!" and their last studio album, "Infinite".
DEEP PURPLE with special guests BLUE ÖYSTER CULT:
October 02 - Manchester Arena
October 03 - London The O2
October 05 - Glasgow The SSE Hydro
October 06 - Leeds First Direct Arena
October 08 - Arena Birmingham

Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

I'm glad Purple has another studio album coming out!! I have really enjoyed their post-Blackmore albums. They have done some very different things than I would expect, and it has been refreshing.
I'll admit that I'm less interested in their live show. Too many greatest hits / oldies that I've heard too many times. But I love getting a disc of new songs by them. Another thread on this page is looking at how few songs the final incarnation of the ABB put together, and some of the obstacles they faced in making new music. I feel like Purple faces the same obstacles, yet is still able to create anew. My hat is off to them.

Yeah I agree about DP since Blackmore left. I think it opened up the band with more freedom to write, musical ideas and input and what Steve has brought. They sprinkle in elements of prog more which is cool.
Don't get me started on setlist 😉 😉 😉 😛 😛 😛

Live In Newcastle 2001
This came out this past summer. I highly recommend it. I would give it an "A+" but I am gonna drop it to an A. Reason being is that Jimmy Barnes sings on 2-3 tracks with the band and it seems like he is trying to out do Ian Gillan by trying to sing like Ian but going way over the top.I find it obnoxious and annoying, It was not needed.

Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

Here is the setlist that Jszfunk was talking about:
1. Woman From Tokyo
2. Vavoom: Ted the Mechanic
3. Mary Long
4. Lazy
5. No One Came
6. Black Night
7. Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming
8. Fools
9. Perfect Strangers
10. Hey Cisco
11. When a Blind Man Cries
12. Smoke on the Water
13. Speed King
(with Jimmy Barnes)
14. Hush
15. Highway Star
Not bad. They offer some unusual oldies and a handful of new tunes in addition to a few of the same old.

They keep on rolling..

They are of the belief that is what the majority want in a set list.
I always enjoy the odd tune to throw a curve in. I always wondered why even Steve Morse played the same solo night after night. Impressive as always but this guy can just flat out let it go. Would love to see that instead for a change.
That siad - they are always great. Ian strains for some tunes which is another reason to change the list. But.....aside from those few high notes. he always sings great.
The truth is that a tour playing the Morse era material (I would love) would cost them ticket sales for any future shows.
Maiden did it for a tour and played all newer material that many at the shows didn't know. Strange vibe after a while.
They followed it with a complete classics set list tour right after that.

I really respect that Rush would keep playing every new album almost in its entirety with each tour, despite the fact that their fan base would be more pleased with a setlist that ended in 1979. King Crimson was another band that for years would mostly focus on new stuff. I think the lineup they had in the 1980s and 1990s would only play one or two songs from earlier years.
It is true that the Purple fan base seemingly will not allow DP to hang up "Smoke on the Water." I get that. But "Black Night" and "Strange Kind of Woman" really deserve to be hung up. Great songs in their day, but not worthy of the constant repetition. I'm much more intrigued by how they have resurrected "Mary Long," "Into the Fire," "Fools," and "Fireball," among other lesser known gems.

there was a tour where maiden didn't play a classic, i believe run to the hills. the fans weren't happy. at some point maiden released a statement saying when they tour for a new album they will play lots of new tunes and on years without a new album they will do tours that focus on the classics

BOC supposedly are working on a new studio album.. it is long overdue, I think Buck Dharma is a very underrated guitar player.
