Darius Rucker

Well, gonna go see him here in Dallas tonight. Really looking forward to this show. Big fan of both his solo stuff and Hootie & The Blowfish as well. I've seen Darius 3 times so far, but never had the chance to see Hootie & The Blowfish. A Thousand Horses, Brothers Osborne, and Brett Eldredge are the opening acts tonight.

I never saw him solo but have seen Hootie and the Blowfish a couple of times and they were great fun!

Saw him summer of 2011 open for Brad Paisley, he put on a great show. Played a few Hootie songs (he's had a couple more country albums since then, so wouldn't be surprised if he may have cut back on those) and closed with Purple Rain!

I saw Hootie at Jones Beach in 1995 (two months before I saw Dickie with the ABB for the last time at the same venue) They put on a great show. I think what hurt them the most was the fact that it took them so long to make it that their first record was packed; and they couldn't live up to the hype. + kind of like George Harrison never living up to the years of songs he put on "All Things Must Pass"

Well, last night's show was awesome!! Darius is a great performer. He played some solo stuff, Hootie, and a few covers as well. The opening acts again were A Thousand Horses, Brothers Osborne, and Brett Eldredge. They were all great to. During Darius' performance, they brought out a military couple, and presented them with a brand new, mortgage free home, which was great to see. Also, Darius sung Amazing Grace acapella as a tribute to the victims of the recent charleston events. He lives there, so it was great that he did that Here's what he played:
Lighter Up
This
Good for a Good Time
Radio
Southern Style
Time (Hootie & the Blowfish song)
All I Want
Don't Think I Don't Think About It
Back When (Tim McGraw cover)
No Diggity (Blackstreet cover)
It Won't Be Like This for Long
History in the Making
Alright
Only Wanna Be With You (Hootie & the Blowfish song)
Let Her Cry (Hootie & the Blowfish song)
Come Back Song
East Bound and Down (Jerry Reed cover)
Hold My Hand (Hootie & the Blowfish song) (With Brett Eldredge, Brothers Osbourne & A Thousand Horses)
Homegrown Honey
Encore:
So I Sang
Wagon Wheel

Sorry to disagree, but I like Fairwaeather Johnson and Musical Chairs more than the first album, which I like a hell of a lot. I don't think anything happened to them other than they cashed in on that first release and got overexposed. Then later on the drummer married the lead guitarist's wife, so that had a little something to do with it, too, if you can imagine that.
Now, miraculously, Darius announced that Hootie is going to tour again, but I don't know the timetable.

I'd go just to hear Let Her Cry. An all-time favorite of mine.

I don't know the inner workings of the band as far as those relationships go, however the band never actually broke up. They still a couple of charity shows each year even during Darius' solo career.

My music partner takes guitar lessons from the same guy who teaches Sonny Sonfeld's and Mark Bryan's kids and I've been in the frost filled recitals where those two guys don't even look at each other and the whole undercurrent of the event is, unfortunately for the students, all about whether either of those guys will recognize the presence of the other. I'm not certain whether they missed a reunion show or two while all this was going on, but I think they did. Those shows are great shows, too, if you can catch one. They do them at the Family Circle Tennis Center Stadium on Daniel's Island in Charleston. Very nice. I think that they must have decided to bury the hatchet in something other than each other, making a reunion tour possible. I guess the money won't hurt either.
BTW...did any of you see the Live Fron Daryl's show in Charleston with Darius? For me, it was about a 10. I grew up down there and visit quite a bit and must say the way those folks are dealing with this recent tragedy is making me very proud. Showing the entire Country what civil society is all about.

I did see the Live From Daryl's house with Darius. That was really good. I've heard as well that Charleston is a great city. Zac Brown Band have their Southern Ground Food & Music festival there every year. Would love to go check the town out sometime.

Daryl Hall has actually moved to Charleston and raves about it. I'm so biased it's pathetic but it's a place I dearly love and miss. It really is a great town. It's so much more than a tourist destination, it's a whole way of living.

Daryl will love it until July when the heat index puts it about 115 F. 😮

That good ol' Carolina heat! Gotta love it!

I don't like Daryl Hall's music really at all, but I do love his show for the most part. There are some Hall & Oates songs they get the guest to play that I just cringe when I hear though.
I did love the show with Darius. He could sing the phone book and it would sound good.
I'm glad to see Hootie getting some love. For awhile I felt like I must have purchased 15 million copies of "Cracked Rear View" myself as nobody was admitting that they were a fan back in the day.

I know Rucker has been doing country music for quite a few years now but no one has mentioned it in this thread. How much of this recent show was country?
I'm ignorant, don't own anything by Rucker or Hootie & The Blowfish although of course I've heard them on the radio.

Which is why I don't own anything by Rucker or Hootie & The Blowfish... 😉

Hootie along with Oasis and Collective Soul was one of the first few bands I liked in the 90's. Critics thought they weren't hip enough or their music was too close to the classic sound or whatever. I heard Let Her Cry on the radio and I loved it. Great song and Darius was a great soulful singer. Like a number of popular bands fromt hat era (Alanis Morrisette, the Wallflowers, the Spin Doctors etc.) they were massively overexposed on radio and we all got sick of them.
