I broke down and saw LF on 12/29 at the Joy Theater in New Orleans. I have not seen them since Richie Hayward and Paul Barrere were still alive. I was only 11 when Lowell died, so started catching them around 1988 or 89 when Craig Fuller was fronting the band and singing Lowell’s parts. Loved that lineup, but when Craig left and they brought in a female singer (Shawn Murphy maybe?), I started to lose interest. Once Richie died, I never cared to see them again.
Took the family to New Orleans to celebrate the new year since we purchased a condo there this past March. Feat were booked right across the street at the Joy on 12/29. I have to say that I was very impressed with the current version of the band. Scott Sharrard did a great job covering Lowell’s vocal parts as well as his lead guitar work, and drummer, Tony Leone, although no Richie behind the kit, played well and did a fine job singing Paul’s lead vocal parts. I recommend anyone on the fence about seeing these guys, to just GO!! It was like seeing an old friend and has put me in a total Little Feat mindset and I’m now constantly scouring YouTube to find videos from the classic lineup that I haven’t seen before.

I saw them sometime in 2022 with acoustic Hot Tuna and I agree - they certainly exceeded expectations. I wasn't sure after the death of Paul Barrere, but they still put on a really enjoyable show for sure.

What original members are in the current lineup?  I've always been a big fan of Scott Sharrard's playing.

The only original member is Bill Payne on keys. Remember, they started as a quartet with Lowell, Bill, Richie Hayward, and bassist Ray (or Roy, not sure) Estrada. I believe after 2 albums, they added Paul Barrere, Sam Clayton, and Kenny Gradney took over on bass. According to Alan Paul’s new book, Kenny auditioned to fill Berry’s role after he died. The band was considering him until Jaimoe suggested bringing in his buddy, Lamar Williams - the rest is history. So, to finally answer the question, Bill Payne, Sam Clayton and Kenny Gradney are still around from Feat’s classic lineup. Guitarist, Fred Tackett did appear on a couple of their albums when Lowell was still alive, but didn’t start touring with the band until they reformed in 1988 and remains with them.

@meandean:  Thanks, sounds like a very authentic version of the band then.  And Scott Sharrard only makes every band he plays in better.

I have a Little Feat question. I ran across a version of "Fat Man In A Bathtub" on Spotify. It is from something called "Live in Holland 1976". Really great version. I went to Amazon to try to buy it and apparently, it is available as a video or something with Amazon Prime? Does anyone have any idea on how to get this or am I not doing something correctly? I have Amazon Prime.

There was a commercial release a while back. 1 disc was audio from the festival the other was a dvd of the performance, Pink Pop Festival I think it was called. I think Amazon has a concert "channel" which is an extra charge, you could watch it there if you're a subscriber. Amazon also shows it can be rented for $3.99. I have the two disc set and also a bootleg video that has most but not all of the concert footage that was on the commercial release.

Ooh, I would take that!

I saw them open for the ABB a couple of times in I want to say 2002 or 2003. So what lineup would I have seen? The more noted one?

meandean, to your question about Shawn Murphy, you are probably correct on that one. She sang backup with Bob Seger for years as well. Probably as they are both from Detroit. I think she used Bob's manager as well. I don't recall why she left Little Feat.

Thanks for the education. Smile

Lee, you would have seen the entire classic lineup (minus Lowell of course) in the early 2000s. Fred Tackett would also have been on guitar, however, Craig Fuller would have left by then. Shawn Murphy might have been gone by then too. Her stint in the band wasn’t that long. You are correct about her singing with Bob Seger, and I believe both Bill Payne and Fred Tackett joined Bob’s band for a few years after Lowell died and Feat went dormant.

Pretty sure she wasn't there. I would have remembered a female. They were very good from what I recall.

My memories of Little Feat start with freshman year in college and a roommate who loved the band. I was just ok with LF day one but after a lot of cannabis the first month of school became a big fan. I truly loved seeing them a year ago.
