Copyright Law Question

I'm a music lover who over the last decade started to document musical moments in time. I've seen and heard some special lost uncaptured musical moments since my musical love affair started in the late 70's. I have recently made it a priority to capture some of these special moments. I do not monetize anything I tape and attempt to promote the music and the artists. As a matter of fact I lay out a lot of money to make it all happen. I am laying out thousands alone on memory cards. I have every card as I don't erase or tape over them.
For those in the know do I have any rights to have no ads or commercials play either before a video loads or during it's playing? I feel that folks will grab more products from the artists if they and their music are known. It may spur an interest in seeing them, buying CD's, and other associated products. I consider it a historical documentation that can be viewed for decades and centuries to come. Am I just a fool?
I just put up a Leo Kottke video that was his version of Little Martha and was dismayed to see an ad pop up before it would play.

Ads on your Youtube video has nothing to do with copyright. It's how Youtube (Google) makes money off of an otherwise free platform, just as ads play before a lot of online video content. If you post something that someone else own the copyright to, Youtube will likely pull it down. If you want ad-free uploads, use vimeo.

99% of my videos don't get ads slapped on them. There are loads of them that are recognized as copyrighted by others but no annoying ads. Jorma solo from the City Winery for instance just about every tune from Hot Tuna has a blurb added on that I can see but ad free. Money is cheap and folks from the middle of our country and other countries aren't going to get the musical visitors like the NY area does. I love it and consider what I do a public service in some sense. It's all about the music, the fans, and the artists not about google. With only a small percentage getting hit I'm not sure that that is it? Some of the higher viewed vid's still have no ads? If it's selective on their part, How do they choose what to blemish?

Advertisements are unique to each viewer. They are based on your viewership history and account, you will see different ad content if you are logged into your Google/Youtube account than if you are not. Also, if you watch more videos, you will likely see fewer ads as you go.

Youtube does recognize copyrighted material, but typically commercial releases, not unique live performances. Look at the video description in this video, and you will find links to the Universal Music Youtube song and artist page that Youtube recognized, along with options for a "Premium" ad-free account:
Your Leo Kottke video does not have any recognized copyrighted material in it because it's a unique live performance and not a commercial music track (and mostly him talking). I played it twice - once there was no ad, and once there was. Don't take it personally, it has more to do with you as a viewer than with the upload.

I appreciate the time and effort Sir, Thanx, I'll have dig into the info you supplied. I'm trying to label songs from a show last night. All of my videos are from live shows.
