Thanks for posting that Billy, I really enjoyed reading that.

It reinforces the sense of general well-being I felt from Pete at the show I saw. He is in a good place right now, able to embrace and enjoy his legacy. He knows that there is something ridiculous about playing My Generation at 70, but if it still makes people happy, including Pete himself, why not do it?

On another note, I've been on a Live At Leeds kick lately. While much of it is similar to other live Who shows from that era, My Generation and Magic Bus are on another level. Magic Bus has some of Pete's bluesiest playing and a great sense of wild abandon from the whole band, and My Generation is one of the best live performances of any song by any band ever. The riff Pete introduces around the 8:45 mark is the heaviest thing ever. I just want to play that riff over and over!

Geekfreak's posts today almost caused me to forget to thank Rob for posting that about the Leeds My Generation. I wonder if Pete was seeing all the hype Zeppelin was getting at the time and that was his way to show that he could do the same thing. That riff Rob talks about has always made me think of Zeppelin.

Was supposed to see The Who over the weekend in Louisville, hopefully they reschedule.

It is very Zeppelin-esque, isn't it? There are parts of Live At Leeds that almost sound like Black Sabbath, much less Zeppelin.

The Who are known, and rightly so, for making intelligent, sophisticated rock operas. But never, ever forget that they could rock as hard as anybody.

Great ear Rob! Yes! Yes! Very Zeppelin-esque. Listening right now and am smiling heartily.

I'm glad you enjoyed that Rolling Stone interview. I agree that Pete is in a good place. It is nice that an old man can look back on his life and recognize his singular contribution. The Who are a huge part of my life's soundtrack.

Roger Daltrey Threatens to Walk Off Stage Due to Marijuana Smoke

The Who’s 50th anniversary tour rolled through Nassau Coliseum on Wednesday night and, according to a report from Newsday, lead singer Roger Daltrey threatened to walk off stage due to marijuana smoke near the stage.

Daltrey has a well-known allergy to marijuana smoke that affects his singing voice and it began to take its toll almost immediately as the opening “I Can’t Explain.” The singer said, “my voice is shutting down” and told the smoking audience member that “the show will be over” if it didn’t stop. That led to some banter from Pete Townshend and Daltrey, as the guitarist tells him to “stick it up his fucking ass.” Watch below.

Daltrey recovered and was able to finish the show, with his voice reportedly getting stronger as it went along.

I long for a Pete solo tour. I wish he would play small, intimate, acoustically amazing theatres. He just turned 70. I really hope he puts a tour together.

Thanks for the info about Pino Palladino pops42. I could tell something was missing from his bass sound. He is a good player but he didn't have that Ox tone.

On the other hand, Zak Starkey did a very good job filling an equally difficult slot. His drumming was dynamic and powerful and energetic and worthy of the Moon legacy.

I have that Royal Albert hall dvd. One of the last tours with the Ox.

Finally saw the Who for the first (and most likely only) time live in Philly. Took the whole family for the boys first concert.

After seeing them on concert vids for a really long time, was what I expected. A damn fine show.

First off, Joan Jett kicked ass for the limited amount of time she had. She blitzed 11 songs in under 40 mins.

As for the Who. Really enjoyed it. The sound was great considering the venue where shows are usually muddy.
Roger's voice was great right up til the end of 'Love reign ...' he didn't push it for the final yell. Which is ok and understandable. The Tommy part was pretty cool with Pete jamming out. 'A Quick One ...' was cool to see but ultimately could have been dropped for a few other songs. I still enjoyed it.

Roger's voice was giving out during "Baba" but he came back strong for the "Won't Get ..." closer esp with with a killer scream at the end. Pete growls more than sings at times, but can't fault a recently turned 70 yr old.

They are ending their tour in Philly in Nov. I figured I'd see them now not knowing where Roger's voice will be by then.

I was glad to see them and look forward to the obligatory dvd of the tour next year.
