This is a spinoff of the Edmund Fitzgerald thread, in response to this comment:
It seems unfair that other American tragedies don't have a cool theme song.

There are plenty. First one jumped to mind was this one:
Cold Missouri Waters -James Keelaghan (re the 13 smokejumpers entrapped in the Mann Gulch Fire, story of one of the two survivors, who started a fire and jumped in to save himself, before backburning was known about)
I am sure others have favorites - this one just rips my heart out, same as Edmund Fitzgerald.

I was young and after hearing Bob Dylan talk about Woody Guthrie I went and looked him up. When I found one of his albums I listened to this song.
