I just saw this and was about to post this. A local friend in Atlanta had told me it was coming, but I thought it would just be a handful of shows like the past few ARU reunion tours. This is an actual TOUR, with 14 different shows in 6 different states and the District of Columbia! This is a big deal!

July 29 Boulder, CO—Fox Theatre
July 30 Boulder, CO—Fox Theatre
July 31 Bellvue, CO—Mishawaka
August 1 Denver, CO—Ogden Theatre
August 5 Birmingham, AL—Iron City
August 6 Nashville, TN—Cannery
August 7 Atlanta, GA—Buckhead Theatre
August 8 Athens, GA—Georgia Theatre
August 9 Asheville, NC—Orange Peel
August 12 Raleigh, NC—The Ritz
August 13 Richmond, VA—The National
August 14 Washington DC—The Howard Theatre
August 15 Port Chester, NY—The Capitol Theatre
August 16 Brooklyn, NY—Brooklyn Bowl

I am genuinely tempted to do the whole Birmingham-Asheville leg. 5 shows in 5 days would be a pretty grueling stretch, but when is the next time I am ever going to even be tempted to do something like that again?

Realistically, both Georgia shows and at least one other are probably in the cards.

Oh, and the same friend who told me about this tour also said that Matt Mundy has been in contact with the band, and he has been playing again lately. The Jambands article makes it clear he won't be touring with the band, but I think there is reason for some optimism about him sitting in for the Georgia shows.

This is going to be good! For those of you who somehow don't know about ARU, check out this article I wrote several Presidents ago....

Does anyone know how to get on board with the pre-sale? Mishawaka Tickets were advertised for today the 25th but you need a password.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow at 11 AM. Just a little reminder.....

These shows may sell out, they may not, but you can't leave this kind of thing to chance.

I''m getting tickets for both Georgia shows, and am seriously contemplating everything within driving distance.

Rob, Athens goes on sale at 10 and I thought Buckhead did too. Asheville is noon.

I am bummed about these dates as they conflict w/ my annual trip to VA. But I'm probably getting Athens tix just in case the 80th annual Old Fiddler's Convention gets cancelled! I even considered Asheville since it is somewhat on my way home that Sun.

I'm trying for DC and Richmond.

I'm very interested to see how these shows sell.

Hey Brock, thanks for the heads up. I will pass that on to my buddy who is on "ticket duty" for our group today.

I am seriously considering Asheville, but I'm not ready to commit to buying tickets yet.

Billy, I too am curious to see the demand for these shows. They could sell out instantly, or not at all. It will be interesting to see.

The ARU FB page says all venues go on sale today at 11am, which clearly isn't right (exactly).

Anyone been to the Buckhead Theatre since it (re-)opened? How does it compare to when it was the Roxy? I know they made extensive renovations. The old Roxy, as I recall, had a capacity somewhere in between the old Cotton Club and the Variety/CenterStage. So maybe 650-750. As I recall, on the last ARU mini-tour they sold out the Variety (~1100) in advance and there was feeling they could've done two nights. With this stop being on a Friday, and at a smaller venue, I'm not hesitating to jump on tix in a half hour.

Aiming for Atlanta/Athens tix today. Will make decisions about B'ham and any other dates later. Unfortunately, home duties call with public schools starting on 8/10 so Asheville is a no-go for me.

Got tickets for Atlanta and Athens (although Ticketmaster was fighting me this morning for the Atlanta one). I'm sensing a pre-show meet-up.

Aaah, that *music to look forward to* feeling. Raleigh, the Ritz. The day before (and hopefully extending into) my next birthday.

And tix secured the second anniversary of the day they told my family there was little to no hope for my recovery!

God's blessings abound, and I am forever grateful.

Hey Zambi, went to the Buckhead Theatre for NMAS in Dec, and it was so much smaller than i remember. not sure why, but maybe because we were upstairs (not recommended paying extra for the assisnged seats. everyone was seated, and kinda lame, and too far away.) no big surprises, no harsh pat down or over active security from what i observed in crowd and upstairs. sound was great. truly like Center Stage over both Buckhead & Variety, esp for something where yu want to move around or dance or groove or whatever.

These are gonna be smokin!

My friend has secured tickets for the Buckhead Theater, but he had trouble with the website for the Georgia Theater.

I don't seem to be having the problem he was having, so I am picking up Athens tickets right now. No reason to risk missing out.

I want to try and at least make one more, but I need to weigh the logistics of the non-Georgia shows.

Brato Ganibe!

Hey Zambi, went to the Buckhead Theatre for NMAS in Dec, and it was so much smaller than i remember. not sure why,

That is my recollection as well. Went there a few time in the early 1990s and remember going back to see Project Z in the early 2000s before Ricky Keller passed on, and I too remember it being much smaller than I remembered. Again, if Variety/CenterStage are in the 1000-1200 capacity range, then I don't think the Roxy could be any bigger than 750, and maybe a bit less than that.

CenterStage is an incredible place to see live music. First place I saw ARU back in 1990. First time I saw TTB too when they kicked off their first tour there. So many great memories there (Johnny Winter, Follow For Now, John McLaughlin, Michael Hedges, Steve Morse, on and on). ARU has a lengthy history with Variety, and with bigger capacity I would have expected them to play there again for a night or two. Variety's sound can be very hit or very miss, but it's got a great vibe there.

I'm in for Athens & Atlanta now. I think B'ham might realistically be my only other shot this run, but even that is TBD.

Bulkhead Theatre's rental page shows 790 seated in the theater for receptions. Looking at the seating chart it seems very different than when I saw Sco Mule, Todd Rundgren, Joe Jackson, Ray Davies, Ian Anderson and others there in the early 90's.

Isn't the seating at Center Stage steeply raked? I remember seeing Etta James there. I think I saw Gregg there too.

Center Stage does have the steeply raked seated portion (don't recall it being all that steep though), but it's a very 'wide' venue. Wiki has it listed as seating 1050 with 750 seated and 300 on the floor in general admission (SRO) format.

The Wiki entry for Variety Playhouse says capacity is 750 seated and 400-1050 for Gen Admission. I don't know what that means exactly for typical concert layout - I presume 1050 (inclusive of the seated section).

If Center Stage and Variety are really 1050 seaters, and the new Georgia Theatre is at 850, then with my recollection of the Roxy there's NO WAY it seats 790. It's much smaller than those 3 venues. More like 500-600 seems about right.

But what do i know? They need to add a emoticon for beating a dead horse though. Guilty as charged!

Found this little item of interest in a Relix email:

"...every performance will be recorded for a possible live album release on the Abstract Logix imprint."

Brock, I was wondering about a possible live album. To me, that was a compelling reason to play a full tour.

Not only do you get more shows to choose from, but the band will be tighter and better by the end of it.

It has been almost 20 years since the world has heard a fully "warmed-up" ARU. I can only hope we are ready.....

I've never seen ARU before, but something told me not to miss this show. Just seeing Oteil play live again is reason enough for me to attend! I was able to get a really nice seat for the show in Port Chester. It's going to be strange for this NYC girl to have to "travel" to a show, even if it is only a 1 hour train ride on Metro North.

Rob - another good tidbit from that press release is what comes immediately before the text Brock quotes:

The sets will feature a mix of new and old material. Most crucially, every performance will be recorded for a possible live album release on the Abstract Logix imprint.

For the most part they have stuck to "Bruce's Greatest Hits" at past reunion shows, so I look forward to hearing some new tunes & jams. I also wish they would do a deep dive into the catalog and play some songs that haven't been played since the albums were released in the early 1990s (Shoeless Joe; Plain Or Peanut), or songs they recorded and never played again (Gone Today, Here Tomorrow), or some songs that were never recorded in the studio but regularly played live back in the day (Micro/Django Jam; Salty Dog; Burning Bush; Two Truckloads).

You know Zambi, I hadn't seen that, but I have been wondering if there would be new material in the mix.

Just more proof that this is a whole different animal than the 4-5 show mini-tours we have seen recently.

This is going to be a very, very long 4 months.

Although ever-hopeful, I expect no surprises in the setlist.

I will be very happy that it will be songs played by this particular cast of characters, though.

They did pull a couple of deeper tracks on that last mini-tour they did back in 06 or 07. I remember being a bit pleasantly surprised that they worked up Too Many Guitars and Planet Earth and Davey Crockett, considering they hadn't touched those tunes in any prior reunions. Maybe they will dig deeper given this reunion tour is signifcantly longer than prior reunions.

I am thrilled that they are getting together this summer. And I really hope Matt Mundy will make appearances at Altanta and Athens.
