The start and finish of last nights show by the Kingfish. I dug it.

Before I Get Old

Catfish Blues/When The Saints Go Marchin' In (technically the beginning of the end of the show, He walks among the crowd and starts beginning notes of Hey Joe)

Hey Joe

He is to contemporary blues what Kamasi Washington is to contemporary jazz: a young still derivative musician looking for his own voice and,in the meantime, being hyped all to hell....Rather hear GCJ or DavyK instead of Kingfish...ANYTIME!

as for young Southern blues artists, I prefer Johntavious Willis. Whereas Kingfish is kinda taking the Buddy Guy route, Willis is going w Taj Mahal and Keb Mo.

I'll have to search them other players out, I'm always up for frsh sounds. This kid is 21 yrs old I like his sound it was very Freddie Kingish, He reminded me of the older blues Gents ala Albery Collins and Buddy Guy, He came down off the stage and walked thru the crowd, out to the lobby, out to the front of the venue, back in, upstairs, then back down, and up onstage. I didn't know Chris Noth owned the place, he was walking around the lobby. My wife was like "look it's Big!" I thought she was pointing to Kingfish, I know him from Law And Order.

Good stuff all around.

The Kingfish says in an interview that he knew who B. B. King was but when he heard Freddie King and Albert King he decided to go all in. Then he became friends with Buddy Guy. Next he discovered Gary Moore of Northern Ireland and soaked up that.

He was a Strat player until he got into Gary Moore then it became a Les Paul Humbucker guy. Now his number one is a custom Les Paul type guitar made for him by a private guitar maker. Lately though he will get in the mood to play his Strat on stage and he using it for the entire show hear and there.

If you guys want to see/hear another real big blues player go to YouTube and type in Popa Chubby.

Somebody link POPA CHUBBY. He plays the saddest looking Strat I think I've seen. It's so beat up it looks as if somebody left it in the street for a day or so and the traffic ran over it.
