Christmas Jam

Saw the lineup released today. Doesn't really excite me too terribly much but there are a few I would like.
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

Blackberry Smoke won me over last year at the Rock, Ribs, & Ridges fest. Jack Pearson is always a treat, some nuggets there.

Oh I'm sure it will be great. I agree about Blackberry Smoke. I saw them last year at The Laid Back Festival. I was very impressed.
Not a Phish fan so Trey doesn't excite me and I don't know anything about The Avett Brothers, other than their name.
I do really like Kevn Kinney.
Like I said, should be a good show though.

Seems like they're missing a headliner or 2nd headliner, and they've been known to announce a surprise big name after it's sold out.
Oteil and all the Panic guys seem like conspicuous absences. Dead & Co. finishes up a leg of their tour the night before Christmas Jam, and in Florida - but that seems too big of an act. Hopefully, at least Oteil might make it for Les Bros.
Jimmy Herring is on tour in California that night, so that precludes him or Panic.
Also, TTB finishes up December 3rd and then breaks until January. That's a big group to reassemble for a one-off gig, and Derek seems to have shied away from getting into situations that have the Allmans semi-reunions. So that seems somewhat unlikely to me.
Still, a lot of Christmas Jam regulars seem like they're missing.

Love seeing Taz on the bill.

I believe this will be my 15th year so the lineup hardly matters to me at this point. With Tedescchi Trucks already playing 2 dates in Asheville in January I cannot see them being a part of it. Though I believe Derek shied away from potential Allman reunions when he would have to constantly answer questions about a reunion which obviously is not the case now. I also think there will be at least 1 more act plus scattered additional people.

Zambi, I think you're spot on on all fronts. They'll announce someone else marginally big. Panic won't play without Jimmy, and TTB already has 2 Avl on the books (I've got front row for Sat. - stoked!)
Les Bros. - The site says, "ft. Jaimoe, Marc Quinones, Jack Pearson, Lamar Williams Jr., Bruce Katz and more". That leaves a gap for a guitarist and a drummer, plus extras playing for a song or two. I could see Duane Trucks sitting in at the kit, and we all know Warren will play plenty. I bet Taz plays a song, as well as Trey. And yea, it'd be great to see Otiel.
I live in Asheville, so you better believe I'll be there.

Well it's hard to assume we are all going to like every single act at a festival kind of thing like this. Referring back to The Laid Back Festival last year, I loved the lineup here in Chicago. We got Frampton instead of ZZ Top, who played in several cities so I was pleased.
Plus they had a Chicago blues side stage thing between the headliners which was really cool.

Gov't Mule with special guest Ann Wilson.....WOW!

The Avett Brothers are the other headliner I think you guys are missing or underestimating. Great band with a strong following and they are top notch live. I saw them 2 times this summer when they played the Fox here in Atlanta three nights (2 sell outs). If you only know their name, here are a gems to get ya started. They can be pretty quiet, but it's always intense:
Head Full of Doubt:
Murder in the City:
Live & Die:
Once & Future Carpenter:

And I'd say if you aren't a Phish fan (I'm not a big one), I enjoyed the Trey Band the two times I saw them at Wanee...more than Phish.

the avetts are great

Gov't Mule with special guest Ann Wilson.....WOW!
Saw them at Lockn' this year. It's a really special partnership. I'm sure Warren had fun. Hence the gig at Xmas Jam.

I think this is a great lineup and I would have gone had I not been coming back from Cuba that night. I gambled that the event was going to be held a week later. But this should be great.

I am hopeful that Les Bros. will pick up the mantle where Les Brers laid it down, maybe even a small tour? Les Brers was such a good band

I think Les Bros may be a combination of Les Bres and Gregg's band.....which are some just great players.

Until this morning I had never heard of the Avett Brothers. Just finishing a YouTube video from Lockn 2017 w/ Weir. Very impressive. Think I'm going to watch it again.

Yeah, I don't think there is another headliner, the Avett Brothers are a headlining act, probably even with a bigger following than Gov't Mule these days.

Would love to see a full set of Mule and Ann. Banging out some Heart, Zep and other classics. That could be pretty special!!!!
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

Not sure if they are looking, but Dave Yoke would be a great guitar choice to be paired with Jackie P in Les Bros. He was in the Wanee version of Oteil & Friends in 2016; was also in first rendition or so of Butch & Friends that played Wanee & Peachfest; and a member of the final Susan Tedeschi Band lineup 2008-2009. I think he might be on some of Oteil's new album, too. He's been in Dr. John's band for a couple stints. He's a monster / tasteful player and would be a good ying/yang to Jack.

Would bet anything Warren fills out the Les Bros lineup. Maybe Trey on a few songs too.

The Stones have nothing on the calendar after next week. I think Oteil is living in St. Augustine these days. Maybe he could pick up Derek and Chuck on the drive up to Asheville.

Dave Yoke would definitely be great, but DMBdeac is right: Warren will obviously play with them for plenty of that show, and likely Trey for a song or two.
Zambi - Oteil would be great, Stones would be great, Chuck would be great, but we all know Derek won't show because of the anti ABB reunion thing. Not saying I'm with him or not on that mindset, but just saying that's how it is with him. But hell, a guy can Dream(s)...
By the way, tickets just went on sale at noon.

Just got reserved tix for Section 202like last year. Those certainly went fast today.
Can’t wait!

Warren, Chuck, and Derek brought the house down on Jessica at the Fox Theatre in May of this year:
I was thinking something along those lines. But Jackie P and Warren could do that. And why not Dickey too?

I'm volunteering to be the chauffer to pick up Oteil, Derek & Chuck on the drive up to make sure they make it in time for rehearsal!

That indeed was great. Lifted the roof off the Fox! So was the one with Chuck + Jack, Duane Betts, Jaimoe, Oteil, Marc, Duane Trucks & Bruce Katz at Peachfest in August.
After seeing Chuck play Jessica with the Brothers in 2001, I never saw him play with them again...even though he did most years. I got bittersweet - lucky here in 2017 to see him with the alumni & relatives for two tremendous versions.

Of the however many hundreds of shows I've been to over the years, I do believe that was the loudest crowd I've ever heard. Ear piercing loud toward the top of the balcony. It physically hurt.

I left Asheville at 4pm that Monday of the Col. Bruce chow and drove straight to the Fox. As I was driving, I was like, "Crom, you're too old for this shit". Fastforward to 1/3 into the show- John Fishman, Duane Trucks, Dave Schools, Warren, and Chuck on stage. I'm like, "Jesus Christ, what a lineup. Man, it'd be killer if my all time favorite musician showed up, but he's not on the list. Oh well". And damnit if Derek didn't walk out on stage right then. I wondered what ARU song they'd play, and they ripped into Jessica. Guys, I kid you not, I literally cried through the entire song. The crowd was going ape-shit that entire time. Apparently after it was played, it was even all everyone was talking about back stage (until the Col. dropped, that is). That Jessica is in the top 3 things I've ever seen in music. You better believe I no longer questioned what I was doing driving to Atlanta on a Monday. And I even made it back to work in Asheville by 8am.

This looks like a pretty cool band with Dave.
