Capricorn question

Why was name Capricorn chosen for the label?

Phil Walden met Duane Allman through Jerry Wexler of Atlantic Records. Capricorn Records was initially distributed by Atlantic. Capricorn was Phil's and I believe Jerry's astrological sign.

Jerry had Duane under contract and Phil lost Otis Redding in a light plane crash so he was looking for a new artist. Jerry sold Phil Duane's contract and Phil decided to launch his own label and Jerry was involved and said Atlantic/ Atco would distribute the record. Capricorn was Phil's astrology sign. I can't remember if it was Jerry's too.
Phil and Jerry decided they would back a trio, actually a bass player and drummer to back Duane similar to Jimi Hendrix and Cream.
Phil introduced Jaimoe to Duane as a possible drummer. Phil knew Jaimoe from playing drums in Otis Redding's road band. Jaimoe had no studio experience. For a bass player Duane was impressed with Berry Oakley who was in The Second Coming.
The three went in to record the album but Jaimoe wasn't comfortable with the studio and wasn't able to understand and process what he was being told by the producer so Johnny Sandlin who had studio experience was brought in to play drums.
The sessions didn't work. Duane's singing wasn't strong enough. Berry was fine on certain songs but Duane decided to shelve the entire thing and rethink the thing. The first change was Berry telling Duane that the stuff and and Dickey Betts were doing when Duane set in with the Second Coming was really unique and cool so let's invite Dickey to join and Dickey accepted so suddenly it was a four piece. We all know the rest of the story and probably what I wrote here.

Pretty sure it was Rick Hall at FAME Studios who first signed Duane and then sold his contract to Atlantic Records with whom Phil was then associated through his Otis Redding connection. Phil then formed Capricorn with Jerry Wexler's help. Both Phil & Jerry were Capricorns.

Thanks Dzobo. When I posted the other day I couldn't remember it was Rick Hall that Duane was working for. I think Jaimoe was uncomfortable with Hall and felt awkward in the studio having no experience in the studio, was okay with Johnny Sandlin coming in to take over the drums for the sessions. But when Dusne wasn't needed in the studio, he and Jaimoe would jam in the next studio.
Liberty records basically dictated the 2 Hourglass albums and when the band tried to record an album they wanted to make, Liberry refused to release it. That is when Duane left for Muscle Shoals and Rick Hall. Duane didntveven call, he just drove down there and took the job. Liberty records then let it be know Gregg Allman was the only thing about Hourglass they liked so Gregg was told he had to stay and fulfill the contract. But they were then telling him what to record including a version of Tammy Wynette's DIVORCE.
Most of the Liberty sessions including Gregg solo were eventually released after the ABB became big but to lackluster sales.

DIVORCE, no way! hahaha, wow, I would have liked to see the look on Gregg's face as he stifled his reaction to that suggestion. Wasn't Liberty Records pretty much a dirtbag label?

"DIVORCE, no way! hahaha, wow, I would have liked to see the look on Gregg's face as he stifled his reaction to that suggestion"
Of course, when we look at his track record now, we can see that there was some accuracy in that song suggestion ...
