California Breed, the band initially consisting of bassist and vocalist Glenn Hughes, guitarist and vocalist Andrew Watt, and drummer Jason Bonham and then Bonhams’s subsequently replaced by Joey Castillo, have posted the following message on their Facebook page:

“The band is over…what a logo though right?”

Andrew Watt elaborated further on the situation by saying, “To the California Breed fans here…I put everything I had into this band…all I can say is I was in it for the long hall…I have a lot of new music for you guys…going to be announcing my plans soon…I cannot tell you how much I appreciate you supporting us, buying our music, coming to our shows…this is not the end…it is truly the beginning…cannot wait to continue the quest to bring rock n roll back to the people that are hungry for it…what an amazing learning experience for me here and introduction to an amazing world of people and fans that share love for the same thing.”

I wish they could've lasted longer. I wish Black Country Communion could've lasted as well. Didn't get a chance to see either group as they didn't make it to Dallas.

A band with Glenn not lasting - now there's a shock. 😉

Bonamassa leaves and takes Sherinian with him for his touring band. Bonham stays for the CA Breed album and then leaves. Is Hughes too tough to work with?

Hughes seems pretty full of himself. I read his biography and every famous person he ever met was "a huge Glenn Hughes and Trapeze" fan. Pretty much every time he mentioned a new name in the book, that line followed.

No doubt he's a talented guy, but very much a standout blowhard in a business where it's hard to stand out in that category.

http://classicrock.teamrock.com/news/2015-01-20/california-breed-couldn-t-continue-without-bonham

California Breed mainman Glenn Hughes says the band split as they couldn’t continue without drummer Jason Bonham.

The sticksman quit last year ahead of planned gigs in Europe and the US forcing Hughes and co. to bring in former Queens Of The Stone Age sticksman Joey Castillo to fill in for their live commitments.

The band officially went their separate ways last week after just one album – and Hughes says it’s because without the original trio, there was no way they could move forward.

He says on Facebook: “On June 2, Jason left California Breed. We had just gone on sale with tickets for the USA and Europe tours. I felt it necessary to commit to these shows, as we had recorded an album and we needed to play and promote our work.

“Joey C came in and played drums and helped us out on tour and I am supremely grateful for this.

“What I couldn't commit to was a second album. California Breed was Jason, Andrew Watt and myself – and there was no way moving forward without all three original members.”

The band were formed in February 2014 from the ashes of Black Country Communion who disbanded following a breakdown of relations between Hughes and guitarist Joe Bonamassa.

Hughes says he’s now concentrating on two musical projects and a film and has promised more details in due course.

I have heard Glenn can be difficult to work with. So whether Jason left or not because of him I dont know. It seems like he would have had that one figured out by now with his time in BCC.

Jason left this summer and joined up with Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony and Vic Johnson and they did some shows this past summer.

Maybe a bigger payday for JB?

Sammy talks about "The Circle"( Hagar, bonham,Anthony,Johnson)

Rock and Roll

Legendary rocker Sammy Hagar says that he is having such a great time performing with THE CIRCLE, a combo consisting of Michael Anthony, Jason Bonham and Vic Johnson, that he doesn't "even see a reason to make a record" with the group.

Asked by Ultimate Classic Rock if he has plans to do a lot of things with Anthony, Bonham and Johnson, Hagar said: "If I get offered a show, my first thing I'd find out is if THE CIRCLE is available before I say I will do it or not. Because I'm not sure that I would do it with any other people.

"I think THE CIRCLE is the band that I want to play with right now. It's the band that I choose to play with over any band. Even CHICKENFOOT is hard, because we only play CHICKENFOOT. So I miss playing 'When It's Love' and 'Right Now' and 'I Can't Drive 55' and 'One Way To Rock' and 'Heavy Metal' and 'Rock Candy'. I miss doing that, as much as I love CHICKENFOOT."

He continued: "THE CIRCLE is so satisfying that I don't even see a reason to make a record. We have so many great hits that we can choose from our catalog, all of those VAN HALEN hits, all of the Sammy solo, all of those MONTROSE hits, CHICKENFOOT hits, LED

ZEPPELIN songs — we have that catalog to choose from for our shows, so to make a record would just be kind of a waste of time. I wouldn't say never, but first I'd like to put together the greatest set list that ever existed in rock 'n' roll, and I think we're pretty close to it right now with the one that we have, but it can even get better. There's a frikkin' goldmine to choose from of songs that I've written and sang in my life."

Sammy is funny. Put together the greatest setlist ever. It just happens to be made up of songs that he wrote. Easy Sammy - put down the to-kill-ya and rum bottles and step back.

Sammy is a fun guy and I can see how that might be more relaxing for Jason.

I really liked the BCC albums. California Breed not so much. Likely my expectations were maybe to high as Glenn pumped up Andrew Watt so much before hand. Guess he felt the need to try and out do Joe. Didn't turn out that way. Al least for my tastes.

I agree. I was pretty psyched when I heard about this lastproject. Like you said he was pumping up that young guitar player. There are just a few songs on there that I go back to...the rest.... eh.

This is kinda changing the subject , but I have always wondered why some drummers like Cozy Powell, Carmine Appice ,Jason Bonham and maybe others who are all very talented never really stayed with one band or just a few over their careers. Maybe they just like to keep things fresh and move on from one project to the other etc. The guys that I mentioned seem to me to be very valuable and have played with many groups.

I don't know anything about Glenn Hughes. Heard of him, but no familiarity.

I got the first Chickenfoot CD. I think I listened to it twice and haven't ever since. They came to town and I was going to see them but since I didn't care for the CD, I didn't go.
