Buying a record player

Anyone ever buy records and NOT have a player? 😉 Yup, we stopped in a record store and I picked up Leon Russel and the Shelter People; my wife grabbed Stevie Nicks Bella Donna (her first record as a kid) but we don't have a player. (my daughter btw found an original Jimii Hendrix Electric Ladyland with the second album still in the wrapper! - She does have a record player is her room) My mom tossed all of my old record 25 years ago...who new they would become cool again?!
Anyway, I have a nice stereo system (Dennon receiver Paradigm Studio speakers + bass) and would like to get a decent record player to add to the system. I know NOTHING about record players but just want to play records through the receiver and not break the bank. Can anyone make an recommendations as to equipment or even things to avoid? Thanks!

This one is pretty cool. Has that old time nostalgic feel to it. I have three turntables and this is probably the best one.
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

I still have Thorens 160 turntable I purchased in 1974. I play it all the
time. You can find them used on eBay, etc... German engineering at its best.

People in the know tell me that the needle / stylus is what to pay attention to.

Doing some internet searching, there is a consensus that the Audio Technica AT-LP60 is very good for the price point. I may give this one a go.

I just picked up an Audio-Technica AT-LP120 about a month ago on the recommendation from a friend with over 4,000 albums. I use to have around 500 myself but paired down to about a 100 or so when we moved from Michigan back to the Western New York area. Sorry I got rid of some of them and wondering why I kept some of them. Either way, back in to vinyl and really love the sound.
Here's a link to the turntable I have and although it's an Amazon link, I'd recommend buying from your local record store ....

Just ran across a cool article reviewing several turntables.

I can vouch for the Rega 1. Love it!

Was just wondering. Maybe the stereo mavens here can chime in. Years ago they came out with the zero tracking turntables where the tone arm set on a track that went right to left and tracked at a 90 degree perpendicular over the vinyl. Do they still make these? Was it really a better design? I've had my Technics table for about 37 years now. It's not zero tracking. It was one of the middle grade Technics tables. I don't play vinyl too often but when I do I'm glad I still have this. A couple of months ago I bought a new needle. I think it perked up the sound a bit.

I have the TEAC TN-300 in shiny white and it looks and plays great! Somewhere in storage I have an old B&O Turntable that I will have to dig out one of these days too!

I too am a vinyl junkie when it comes to truly listening to the music I love. I have a 1981 technics DS303 turntable that has been a true warhorse thru the years and delivers great sound. well Christmas morning while listening to vinyl Christmas presents, it let me down as the tone arm lift and tracking broke ( the arm would not stay in the down/play position). I toyed with the idea of buying a new turntable and researched new turntables for a couple of months. I really wanted a fully automatic TT and had settled on a Denon DPF300, which is by no means a high end TT at today's prices. BUT just before I pulled the trigger, I tried one more time to look for someone to look at my old TT for repairs. I found Bill Ennis at Ennis Audio in Southeast Charlotte NC. I reached him by phone and he agreed to look at my TT. Well for about 20% of what a new TT would've cost me my Old Technics is playing like a champ and delivering that full rich sound I crave. So before you pay 3 -4 times what you paid for that 30 -40 year old TT, I would suggest looking for someone in your area that is doing the labor of love that Bill Ennis does so well. And If you're within driving distance of Charlotte, I highly recommend Mr. Ennis' work & rates. Use the phone number provided on his website.

I like the old gear, and there are rated sellers on ebay who refurb and know old gear. I got an old Pioneer that this cat makes veneer table base deals out of that are beautiful off the bay. He puts nice cartridges in them and goes thru them and $4-600 depending on exact model.

I just got this one for Father's Day. The main reason was it was 3.8 inches high, and the space I had for it was only 4.5 inches high. I have been very happy with the sound. It has a switchable pre-amp - so if you have an old receiver it will plug in the phono jacks. If you don't (mine is all digital), you can plug it into any rca jacks available. I wouldn't say it is high end, but the sound I am getting from it is great. Good thing I took care of my albums .... no pops or hiss at all.
