Butch touring ala Phil & Phriends

I hope to see them again. Does anyone think Butch could have a post ABB career modeled on Phil & Phriends? I really think he could do a very similar rotating members deal .... And based on the universally fantastic reviews, I think there would be a demand, coming from a original member of the band, to hear ABB material.

who knows what Butch will end up doing,Gregg and dickey have been playing the same ole Allman classics for years, which is cool for the fans of the band but I personally would rather hear new music sprinkled in with ABB cuts in a set.

If he does, I hope they rehearse.
I have enjoyed Phil & Friends but the GD members' cavalier attitude about not rehearsing and playing like sh*t really pisses me off sometimes.
I remember seeing Phil & Friends on more than one occasion where they had music stands up there and were obviously still unfamiliar with the material. It sounded like it too. That is insulting when you are shelling out $40-$50 for a ticket which I guess now for Phil & Friends more like $100. It's a big reason why I will not see Phil anymore.
Hope Butch tours with a band, but please rehearse. No one wants to see a rehearsal.

Butch dates:
Fri 08/21/15 Huntington, NY The Paramount
Fri 09/18/15 Bradenton, FL Ace's Lounge
Sat 09/19/15 Boca Raton, FL The Funky Biscuit

If he does, I hope they rehearse.

There's nothing wrong with using a music stand. They have been used for years and still are - it doesn't mean you are unfamilar with the music.
sounding like you don't know the music is a different story, of course. Personally, every time I've seen Phil the band has been great, but that's just my experience.
Back to the OP - to me it would be more interesting to do what Butch is doing, changing the instrumentation, then "re-forming" the ABB.
Sprinkling in other tunes would definitely make it better. For some reason, I don't think Butch is interested in "new" tunes, but I guess we'll have to wait and see

I agree with axeman. I'm done with bands working tunes out on stage. I love hearing Phil's bass especially in smaller venues but I'm kind of tired of the whole, lets see what happens thing.
Sco Mule was so good. I think they really worked hard on the songs and transitions but made it look easy.
The one off festival jam line ups seem fun but they are also frustrating. Put a band together and stick with it. Maybe in 3 or 4 years, there will be something comparable to the Mule or the old DTB.
As much as I miss the good old guitar jamming days of the ABB and Jerry Garcia,
bands and artists that really hone their craft even if it's a little predictable are appealing to me more these days.
Really liking Jason Isbell this summer and the band Dawes that Duane Betts is playing with. The songs come first for these people. Dawes sounds great live even if their recordings are a bit stale.

Are we kidding here? Phil was in his late 50s when he started doing Phil and Friends. It was met with demand enough to play multiple nights at full size theatres and to play arenas and to sustain demand for years and years. Butch can't sell the Paramount in New York City and is playing the The Funky Biscuit and Ace's Lounge. No there is not a chance on this planet that Butch can sustain a model within 1000 miles of what Phil has done.

Excellent point tbomike, BUT - at first glance, Ace's Lounge and The Funky Biscuit are filling up fast 😉

The Paramount is on Long Island in Huntington. I was at the show there Friday night and it was excellent. It may not have been sold out, maybe only about half, but I bet if they did it again it would sellout or come close to it. This was Butch's first solo foray and I am not sure people knew what to expect and whether ABB music could come across the right way with a single guitar. IMO they did very nice interpretations of the songs. Could they add another guitar? Sure they could but it was still very good and very satisfying show. I would go back and see them again in a NY minute.

Thanks, Pete. It was a fun show to play, and I am looking forward to playing with them again in Boca Raton next month (and that one will have a second guitarist).

Excellent stuff Vaylor and good for you. that's a real fun band you got and hope to see you guys playing some more gigs coming up. The wanee set is so good, thanks.
you should look into playing Irving Plaza in the village NY, Its the perfect place for this band.
peace to you and enjoy the music ~

Just happened to see the actual gate for this on billboard box office reports and remembered this conversation. Not close to half sold.
