Buddy Guy, John Hiatt & Sonny Landreth

I just learned of this tour and it floors me. I've seen Buddy a bunch of times, Sonny a few but never John Hiatt. I'm somewhat confused by the lineup because depending on where you look it appears that Sonny is the opener but The Goners are playing which was Hiatt's band. So I think Buddy and John Hiatt are playing together. Maybe Sonny too. At any rate, I am going to head north to the Milwaukee show. The theater is beautiful and I can't think of a better lineup.Â
The tickets weren't bad, $50 for the cheap ones but it ends up and almost $140 for a pair with all of the stupid fees.
If you get a chance, I would suggest going. đÂ

Hey Lee, when I saw John Hiatt & The Goners were playing Telluride in September, I texted my buddy who drums for Sonny. I asked if they were doing a run of shows and he said yes, about a month and a half. He was not part of the Goners, which was Sonny, Dave Ranson and a different drummer (canât recall his name), so he wonât be on those gigs, but it will be Buddyâs band and John, Sonny, Dave and their drummer (Kenneth Blevins maybe?) as the Goners performing. I can see a sit in on Hiattâs âFeels Like Rainâ since Buddy covered it a while back.Â

I think the first time I saw Sonny was in a bar in either Kalamazoo or Grand Rapids, MI. It was in support of his album The Road We're On. I think it was announced as him and The Goners. That Dave Ranson you mentioned was one of the three that played that night. Really nice guy! All three of them hung around after the show and signed whatever you wanted. I took a window poster down from the window and they all signed it. It was an awesome show.
Sonny is probably the most unique slide player I have ever heard. I can pick him out of anything. Hearing him and Buddy Guy is going to be interesting as they are obviously both lead players. And Buddy playing second fiddle to anyone is rare. He used to have a guy in his band and I think his name is Scott Holt. How this guy isn't bigger is beyond me. I liked him playing lead more than Buddy which is saying a lot!
