I wonder if they discussed Duane!

Good question. I did some googling.

Dickey and Pat were the double bill at The Winterland on 4/29/78.

They both were on the "Rock Legends Cruise" in 2011.

And, Pat opened for Dickey in NJ on 8/ 1 / 14.

And most importantly, I played in bands that opened for both of them! Dickey in May 2005, and Pat in August of 2015. Maybe my name came up. I'm obviously being a smart ass about their "connection," but those were 2 of the best gigs I ever played. Love both of their playing. I believe Pat is now a Floridian, so they may cross paths more frequently these days.

I couldn't stop moving when it first took hold
It was a warm spring night in the ol' town hall
There was a group called The Jokers, they were layin' it down
Don'tcha know I'm never gonna lose that funky sound

Other than "Boom Boom Out Go The Lights" I'm barely familiar with Travers work. Any suggestions?

My bad, this is a Rick Derringer lyric rumored to be referring to an early Dickey Betts band, The Jokers.

Here's a link to video of him from a local show in NJ (The whole show is there)

He also played in a benefit show in Fla for Mike Kach (Great Southern keys/vocals), Here's a link to one of songs from that show. Multiple local talent along with some Great Southern personnel and The Outlaws. (More vid's via that link also)

I really liked "Heat in the Street" , "Makin' Magic" & "Putting it Straight ". (Mid & Late 1970's rock)Boom Boom was the radio hit ,but these lps made him, he had a great band back in the day, great guitar work with Pat Thrall & that band rocked it.

PS this music seems like it would be in Warren's kitchen!

Hopefully they stayed off the subject of what Pat thought of the ABB's version, and of Duane -- this is from a Vintage Guitar interview with Pat Travers, cut-&-pasted from a Jan. 2007 thread here in the forum.......

__________________________

VG: Your arrangement of that song was along the lines of the Allman Brothers' arrangement.

PT: Well, their version is so * ing lethargic and smacked out, you know. I mean, what the hell. the song was written in 1926 anyway.

Do you prefer Willie McTell's original version?

I have never heard Blind Willie McTell's version.

He was a good slide player.

We're going to be doing a gig with Johnny Winter [GP, Aug.'74]; I'm looking forward to that. To me he's the baddest of the slide players when he puts on that tender 12-string. Forget Duane Allman [GF: May '73]. He was so overrated it was unbelievable.

Do you really think so?

Overrated. I think probably he influenced a lot of people in that style, but I've heard better slide players from the same area or even further south. I met a man from New Orleans when I was real young, and this guy was a * of a lot better than Duane Allman. If you listen to that thing Duane did with Derek & The Dominoes on "Layla"[Layla. Polydor, 2-3501], he's so friggin' out of tune. Then again, that's personal taste.

I really dug Pat Travers when I was 12. I think his version of "Statesboro" is an abomination. I'm really happy that Dickey is playing music with other people anywhere, including his den.
